Patch glue
« on: July 18, 2025, 06:14:21 PM »

Hi, how do you remove the glue squares left behind by patches? I can't seem to find anything, beginning to look like a giraffe.

I was actually thinking to post the same thing! I had read that baby oil helps but I'm still having to scrub the stuff off. It's a different oil I've got, an Aveeno one, so not sure if that makes a difference. Hopefully someone will have good tips.

Any kind of oil helps I think. I find the amount of glue residue changes depending on where I place the patch too. Also I must be a wuss because they really hurt me when I have to take them off! At least they must be sticking well haha.

Thank you.

I haven't tried oil. I've tried bleach, white spirit, nail polish remover and Cif and a metal pan scrub. Nothing takes it off without scrubbing for ages, and that hurts.

It doesn't answer the question but when I use tattoo film over it I don't get the glue marks. Also if you leave it a day or two it comes off more easily though I suspect it's the layer of skin coming off. Baby oil seems to recommend on here but I haven't tried it.

I just wait a day or two after patch removal then stand in a warm shower or bath and just scratch gently with my nail and it comes off quite easily. Sometimes I leave the glue on for a bit when I change a patch so I can remember where abouts I had it when I need to change the position for the next one   :)

Thank you both.

Shower scratching... :-\ There's got to be a better way.

I'm afraid I'm a scratcher too! It can be a bit brutal sometimes and leaves the skin really red for a little while. I have tried rubbing firmly with a dry, not soft, flannel can work. On an older thread someone recommended rubbing alcohol but I never managed to find any, I probably wasn't looking in the right shops though.

I used to use the patch I took off to rub off the residue.  It always worked.

So I have had what could be a brainwave .. I have used sellotape in the past to get sticky bits off books from price labels. That could work?

Me too! That will be great if it works. I'll try the patch method first - role on Wednesday! (patch change day)

Nail varnish remover works really well. Soak a make up remover pad and hold it on the sticky stuff for a few seconds to soften it. It then comes off really easily without having to scrub or scratch at it.

You can buy surgical adhesive remover, either wipes or spray, from any pharmacy. There are several brands available (I use Zoff - works a treat).

FOLKS, I have a solution. It took me ages to come up with this. However, you do have to live with the patch residue for a day. It's very cheap though.

When you take the patches off, get a small blob of some kind of emollient cream - i use Aveeno cream for very dry skin - and wipe it over the residue. Don't even try to get the residue off, just wipe it on and leave it.

Next morning in the shower, get some shower gel and your sponge and it will just rub right off really easily.

Ta da. Zero other products. Zero expense. But you do have 1 day with residue.
