Hello!
« on: July 21, 2025, 12:05:21 PM »

Hi all, I’m 44 years old and I’ve been experiencing what I now know were perimenopausal symptoms. For a few years they’ve progressively gotten worse. I’ve experienced hot flushes (day & night), night sweats, intense headaches before my period was due, palpitations, anxiety & mood swings. I had a blood test last year but the GP said my hormones were fine & that I had a b12 deficiency. My periods were regular too. I’ve not had a period since late April so I booked an appointment with my gynaecologist. I was told my lining was just 1mm thick & it appears to be early menopause. Been given some progesterone pessaries for 10 days (Cyclogest 200mg) as he wants to see if I get a period end of July. He doubts it though as my sister went through early menopause at 47 years old so he suspects it’s a family thing. I’m on here because I was just expecting to be told that I’m in perimenopause! I’ve read up online & they all mention HRT to prevent heart disease & osteoporosis so I’m going to have to read up on that too now. I’ve booked another GP appointment. Any advice would be much appreciated x

Morning.  From where I'm sitting U R perimenopausal.  Gyneas often don't know much about menopause  ::). Was your 1mm lining diagnosed via a scan?

:welcomemm:  why would U be given progesterone ?  My periods waxed and waned for several years B4 the final bleed = menopause.  Though Mother Nature may throw in a period when we think that we've finished, when this should be investigated with a scan. Usually it's the ovaries having a flutter  :D

He also doesn't seem 2 understand what an 'early' menopause might be.  Medics are fixated on the mean age of 55.

You are the 'right' age to begin noticing symptoms, it's The Change. Does what it says on the tin.  Hot flushes, cold shivers, aches and pains, intermittent periods which may become heavier or lighter  ::). Some find that keeping a mood/food/symptom diary of use.

I knew that my symptoms were natural so never went to the GP.  Personally I wouldn't take a hormone yet as your body may bleed naturally and blood tests are reliably unreliable !

Thanks for the quick reply! I had an internal scan & got everything checked, not just lining. He also checked my ovaries. Mentioned follicles & eggs (he had to draw a diagram to explain fully as I didn’t have a clue what he was on about) and that mine were limited hence why I was given the progesterone pessaries, to see whether I would get a period. My sister stopped having periods when she was 47 and she didn’t think anything of it because she thought it was related to stress, which she unfortunately had a lot of. As for my mother, we aren’t sure of when she went through the menopause and have no way of finding out.

I had no idea during my menstruating years about hormones, simply that the period would arrive more or less 28 days apart: mine went into 36 for years then back to 32  ::).  My first was August 1968 .......... I went into peri around 43 I think .

Let us know how you get on?  Would U prefer to go into peri without adding hormones?  If U don't get a period with progesterone, it probably doesn't mean that your ovaries have shut down completely ;-)

Years after my periods disappeared I would get symptoms and think "OH NO! not after all this time"  :D

Thank you so much for your messages CLKD. Reading through messages on the forum definitely make me feel less alone and a lot more informed. I’ll be going tomorrow to see my GP and we’ll just take it from there I suppose. And yes, of course I’ll update on here!
