Estriol cream storage
« on: July 11, 2025, 11:01:53 PM »

This is a trivial thing compared to others, but it's not always easy to get replacement prescription. I normally store my cream in the fridge. I forgot to put it in this morning after using so it's been sat there all day in this heat. It says not to store above 25 degrees. I can't guess the temperature inside my house today. Is it likely to be spoiled and will I only know if I suffer the effects? I'm annoyed. It's almost a full tube. I rarely forget to store it properly

I don't think it will be spoiled by leaving it out for a day unless it was on a windowsill in the sun.  I've not put mine in the fridge yet and the tube feels cool in the draw.

If you are still worried you could buy a tube of Ovesse in Boots for peace of mind. Our small branch has air conditioning.

I read an old post of yours that said to only put Estriol/Ovestin in the fridge for short necessary periods is this what you generally do ?
I’ve been keeping my small stock in the fridge until I use it but maybe this is incorrect.
Probably in there roughly for a month with usually 2027 dates at moment. I’m one tube ahead of a repeat prescription. Feel that it is still effective on use but wondering now if fully effective.

Thanks everyone. I'll see how this goes. I have a spare. I always order one ahead and they send two but they're always in the fridge in Sumner. Maybe that's wrong

When I searched the web last year I couldn't find anything about how to store Estriol in Summer temps.
I've since found this on the web. Do not store in a fridge, it should be stored at room temp between 15c and 30c. Do not store over 40c.

I live in a new eco home that can be like a furnace in summer, as an experiment I left my half tube of Estriol at room temp of over 28c and it had no affect on the cream whatsoever. I placed my new tube of Estriol in the fridge and when I took it out I knew this was wrong as the tube felt too cold.

I am now happy to leave my tube at room temp and not worry anymore.

Okay thanks. I've not had any worsening from my storing in a fridge though. It's clearly been doing it's job. I do put it in the door and it's not as cold there but I'll find a cool cupboard to use instead

I store mine in fridge door ad well out of the way in the top section and agree not had any noticeable worsening in use.

The pharmacy where I collect from is an independent one with no air conditioning I may ask at end of the month when my next script due how they store.

It was 27c in our home yesterday. Need to go back to the cob cottage that we once rented. Warm in winter cool in summer.

I think I started storing in the fridge after reading someone's post on here. The one that was left out seems ok but I've noticed when I mix with Yes as I usually do, it's not mixing well so I'm not sure. I'm going to keep in the fridge until I've checked with the pharmacist

I've opened a new tube and the other one must have spoiled as this one is blending properly.  So the heat got to it.

I bought a cooler box (not electric or anything) and I find because it is so well insulated and I keep it in the coolest room down on the floor it keeps the temperature inside to 25C. x

I have one I can use. But I don't think the inside of my fridge door is that cold and it's been okay up to now. I'll check on Monday and get a replacement tube. How on earth would you ever go on a safari or road trip across America with the flipping estrogen meds!!

Yes, I asked the pharmacist at Boots and she said to just put in the fridge when the room becomes too  hot during the day but no need to leave in all the time. The only time I noticed my tube not working so well was when I was in Greece for 2 weeks in a south facing room with no aircon during the day and I'd left it in the draw.  By the end of the 2 weeks the consistency had changed too and was a bit like moose. I use a tube every 3 weeks externally so I just opened a new one when I got home. If the tube feels cool it should be fine.
