extra progetrone alsongside patches
« on: July 12, 2025, 02:39:54 PM »

Gp has sent me a script for 5mg of medroxy, following a phone chat in May re my hystoscope. To take along side my Evorol conti patches. What other types of progesterone are there as i do not want to take tablets. What do other ladies use along side patches to add extra progesterone, do not really want a coil either.

Firstly I would make the distinction between a short term course of an additional strong progestin to treat an abnormal thickening that has been identified on investigation, which may be what your GP intends, and the long term use of dual synthetic progestins which is not ideal.

If we are talking about the long term use, and your lining is not controlled on either the combined patch or estradiol with micronised progesterone at the highest tolerated dose, including using this vaginally, and you don't want the IUS, then the most favourable long term combination would be to add micronised progesterone to the combined patch.

Then you would be better with vaginal micronised progesterone.

Utrogestan or cyclogest are both meant to be identical to the progesterone our bodies make, so seem a gentler way to control your lining. Both make me feel crazy and ill enough to stay in bed, but not in the way medroxyprogesterone was close to causing my suicide.

It's hard to imagine now that I'm long recovered, but taking provera (medroxy) made me feel that my life was completely pointless and painful. It occurs with progesterone and without it I'm happy, the difference is like night and day.

I ended up with provera (I later found out) because my GP wanted to show me there was nothing to worry about, progesterone intolerance only happens in younger women and the doses involved in HRT cannot possibly bring on that type of reaction.

Of course she was wrong, but still maintains that my reaction isn't even possible in theory. We no longer speak.

In short try the micronised progesterone vaginally for the best dose getting to your uterus and the least side effects.
