Vaginsl bleeding and spotting
« on: July 11, 2025, 09:38:08 AM »

Hi everyone, new here but read lots of posts which have been informative. Looking for advice please??? I'm 54 and always had very heavy periods lasting sometimes 8 or 9 days even with the pill. At 47/48 i had contraceptive implant put in and after a while it did slow periods down to a few light ones here and there and Brown spotting. Age 51 had it removed and had some periods for 2 years and some missed periods but still had frequent Brown/browny red spotting. At age 53 prescribed atorvastatin and diagnosed type 2 diabetic. Within 2 months of taking atorvastatin (coincidence maybe?) I started spotting here and there for 6 wks pink and watery red. I then had 4 months of nothing until Nov 2024 where it's been constant off and on red blood for few hour, to pink to brown and back to red.  A few days to a week nothing then starting again. For the last 3/4 wks its been daily. Wondering could it be peri? Had vaginal soreness and dryness for last 5 years or so and maybe tmi, my labia is nearly gone. Not been able to go to gp yet, hoping to go next wk when on annual leave. Sorry about the essay I'm so tired and stressed with it all xx

Definitely sounds like you are in Peri and hopefully someone will come along soon and help you with advice.
As for the Vaginal Atrophy (GSM) you can request treatment now and the sooner you start the better as it can take up to four months to take effect.

This link is very informative

Thank you do much for the reply. Its just getting me down right now.  if I put all the info I've shared with you on Google, it suggests peri as well. 🤔

The forum has been quiet of late, probably the heatwave, but hopefully someone will pick up on your post and give you some reassurance.

Vaginal dryness and labia changes fit low estrogen, but ongoing bleeding needs checking. Don’t wait, see your GP

Hi if you’ve never gone 12 months without a period then it sounds like peri menopause. If might be with getting it checked with a GP. Some ladies don’t reach menopause till late 50s. There’s a thread on this forum about “late menopause. “

Hi just an update. Since last post, I visited gp who was decided to refer me for ultrasound which is due 4th Sept. She also did a pelvic exam which hurt like hell. She said I presented with common symptoms down below of someone who is perimenopausal who's not been sexuslly active for many years. Also said could not find any abnormalities whilst doing the exam. Prescribed estriol cream for 2 wks daily then twice a wk after that. (Used it for a wk or so 3 years ago but had no abnormal bleeding prior or during this) im on day 5 now, and On day 4 I've gone from period type bleeding, followed
by brown blood to no bleeding for approx 22 hrs, to heavy beige discharge to period bleeding again with achy belly. Has anyone else experienced this

Yes I had this during perimenopause. Strange bleeding patterns and different coloured blood. Long gaps without bleeding, the longest being nine months, also episodes of weeks of bleeding without a break. I hope the ultrasound goes well and that the estriol cream is beginning to work.

Thank you for the reply.  I know bleeding and spotting is common when you first start hrt, but going from off and on bleeding for months and now this with the hrt. Really making me feel crappy. Just want it to stop, it's never ending
