Help with HRT
« on: July 08, 2025, 09:32:17 PM »

Hi I’ve been on everol conti patches for maybe 8 years & bled every 2 weeks, which I’ve been told is hormonal with it being regular! (By a gynae dr but not my own). I’ve had enough of the bleeding do decided to change HRT & dr suggested estradiol gel 2 pumps & utrogestan 100mg capsules. I’m still bleeding every 2 weeks though, any advice on where do I go from here? I find the gel messy & a pain Waiting for it to dry before I can get dressed! Please help with alternative? I still have my womb x

Hi welcome to the forum.

Are you able to give us some more information?  How old are you ? Are you definitely post menopause ? This info will help us answer your query.

If you're not meno utro won't stop your periods. You can use an oestrogen only patch alongside any separate progestogen. The most effective option to be bleed free is a mirena. The synthetic oral progestogens are more effective than utro or if you're young perhaps a combined BCP which includes oestrogen.

If you're postmenopausal ( 12 months without a period and not on any hot or hormonal contraceptive at the time) then the bleeds will not be hormonal, they will be breakthrough bleeding.

If the utrogestan 100mg are not stopping the bleeding then the advice would be to go to 200mg continuously.  As sheila99 says, you could use a 50 patch instead of gel.  You will need to give the utrogestan up to 6 months for it to settle.
