Vagirux
« on: July 07, 2025, 06:15:13 PM »

Hi ladies, just looking for some advice. I have used Vagirux for a very long time because of vaginal atrophy.
A month ago I started getting a green discharge the day after I inserted a pessary .. no smell!

I called the Menopause nurse and she said to stop using it meantime - it was maybe causing some irritation.

I also have a third grade uterine prolapse which I keep in check with exercises, however since stopping the Vagirux I have terrible cramping down below.

Does anyone know if I can start using the pessaries again or do I have to do the two week usage?

Grateful for any advice. 🙏🏼

Did your Nurse suggest taking a swab, clear discharge is to be expected but anything coloured should be investigated.

Hi CLKD… No she didn’t suggest getting a swab. Probably because I would only get the discharge the day after inserting the pessary and then it would go away. She thought it was just irritation. Think I’ll make an appointment this week and have a chat. Thanks for replying. 👍🏼

Perhaps you have an infection, I don't mean to scare, it's just that you said the discharge was green, which suggests more than just mere irritation.
We have to get on the case with anything down below as it can turn nasty quickly. Again, I don't mean to scare.
I take vagifem, I believe it's similar to vagirux pessaries.
My Dr suggested prasterone.
I know it's the gold treatment, but it's expensive, my GP said primary care cannot prescribe, but I think that is not true. It might be my next move.
Biologically, there are receptors of testosterone and oestrogen down below, and while vaginal oestrogen is a godsend for this sort of thing for many, it stands to reason we need all hormones down there replacing topically.
I would speak to a GP, quick style, even if for peace of mind, as I am not a Dr.
Dr Louise Newson has loads of free education on this (and more) she's good while you wait to see your Dr.

How often are you using the vagirux? Your post suggests that it's not daily but if it's only twice per week it could be that your vaginal walls are still dry.
The discharge could be as simple as your body producing more lubrication but the extra moisture can't be absorbed as your vagina is too dry and the moisture is just running out rather than being absorbed.
Is the discharge definitely green or is it more yellowy? If it's more yellowy then I would say that you need to increase usage as yellowish discharge is one of the signs of GSM.
If you're at all unsure, please see your GP or nurse and get examined and a swab taken.

Thanks everyone for replying. 🙏🏼

I was at the Doctors yesterday. She put the Spatula in to check my uterine prolapse hadn’t worsened. She said it looked fine etc but extremely dry.
Back taking the Vagirux again twice a week and using Yes vaginal gel. If things don’t settle I have to go back. I should have asked her if I could put it up to three a week cos I do feel twice a week isn’t enough. 🥴😖

In my experience I cant see how two a week would be beneficial to you, but as I always say, we are all different in how much we need to control symptoms.

Dr Currie posted in this thread this morning, you might find it helpful
