Okay to mix?
« on: June 30, 2025, 11:45:23 AM »

Hiya, new here but not to perimenopause unfortunately! I just have a question about mixing HRT preparations.
I reduced patch to Everol 75 a couple of months ago as I was feeling what I would describe as jittery on the 100s. After being on that dose for around a year, doc agreed to reduction but brain fog and joint/muscle pain worsened.
Anyway, I have been topping up with one pump Oestrogel at night to bring me back up to the 100 mark, but to split the dose. I prefer the patch over gel as it takes an age to dry with me.
Symptom-wise I feel better, although my period cramps seem to have worsened and I've put a little weight on, so I just want to know does anyone else do this?

:welcomemm:  How old R U and what were your periods up to?

Could it B that topping up every night might be too much?

No reason why you can't mix them. You may not absorb them equally so it's possible you won't be getting exactly the same as 100 patch but I've done this to use up old hrt.

Thanks for replies girls. I'll be 52 next month and I've been peri probably for around 8 years now, CLKD, I was on POP for 20 years before HRT with no bleed, but wanted to know what stage I was at and have just stayed on the cyclical.
That's good to know Sheila99, thanks. I also have started local oestrogen, so thinking maybe I'll apply gel every other day or so?

It is something some private specialists would support but an NHS GP is unlikely to support using two different estrogen preparations together.

It is not just about the cost of the prescriptions it's because there is no evidence base for what level of endometrial protection is required, and most would be nervous about prescribing something unorthodox.

I personally think every woman should have a regular pelvic scan, just like cervical screening and mammography, but I would particularly recommend considering an annual scan for someone on an individualised regime like this which deviates from standard clinical guidelines.

It would be better to use half a pump every day instead of 1 pump every 2 days so that your levels are more consistent.

Thanks Bombsh3ll, I totally understand what you are saying. I agree, the yearly scans would be ideal. Unfortunately I'm unable to afford private.
So, I'm going to continue with the half pump, Sheila99 until my next bleed and if cramps are bad etc. I will reduce to just the 75 patch and hope for the best.
I've a lot going on with elderly parents and such so maybe the jitteriness is down to all that?? Oh the joys! Thanks for listening, I honestly appreciate it very much.
