Anyone have a problem with Estroderm staying on?
« on: June 26, 2025, 03:27:37 PM »

I have had to swap to Estroderm 50 as there is such a problem getting hold of my usual Estrodot patches.  Although I'm not over keen on wearing something the size of a tablecloth to get enough HRT it's ok and has worked...BUT the patches tend to lift a bit after 3 days...and so I fee, .due to symptoms returning, it isn't probably delivering the dose it should be.

Any advice?

I used tattoo film which seems to work OK and is probably the cheapest option. Fortunately got some estradot now and I can really feel the difference.

I had the same problem when using the patches for IVF. Mine were estraderm 100mcg. They were huge but at 32 I had a lot more "smooth flat hairless skin" to work with and was highly motivated. I wouldn't entertain transdermal long term and prefer the convenience and reliability of oral myself, however I found the following advice from my clinic helpful for the short period of time I used them;

cleaning the area first with rubbing alcohol to strip oils out from skin
heat bonding the patch to your skin with a hand warmer - some people use a hairdryer
apply a square of hypafix or softpore dressing over the top, slightly larger than the patch.

Obviously hygiene takes a nosedive when using patches unless you can afford to change them daily but I found that the adhesive dressings did permit one shower during the lifespan of a patch.

Hi,

I never had an issue but I made sure I held them in place for 60 secs when I first put them on, used upper thighs or butt.

When I was on the Estraderm 25 patches I had no problems with them sticking- in fact it was hard to get them off! Now I’m on the Estraderm 50 I agree that the edges seem to lift after a day so I’m using two of the 25 patches instead as I already had a supply of them when my dose went up.  I think you have to press them down for a good minute when you apply them - it’s a bit annoying that they’re so big and crinkly I agree.  I’ve only had to throw away one of them though so far - once on I find they do stay on - through showers too.

I actually find them quite sticky, it's the size that's the problem. The 100s are 7cm square and I can't find a patch of skin that big that doesn't move when I bend. And then they lift at the edges.
