Hello! I’m new here and I’m hoping you’ll be able to help me please.

I’ve read conflicting information about cutting patches.

I’m on evorel sequi and want to reduce the dose and cut patch in half. Is this okay? Do you cut both the 50 and conti patches? Is there a better way to cut diagonal or straight ? And, does it affect period at all.

So many questions.

You can cut them but you need to cut both the types of patch the same so get a consistent dose of oestrogen. It doesn't matter how you cut them but best if you leave the flap so you can get the backing off.

Thank you! I was getting a bit confused by all the info out there and concerned as some say you get a big dose of oestrogen on half?!

It was not advisable to cut the old reservoir patches, however the matrix patches that are used today are perfectly suitable to be cut.

I would cut with clean sharp scissors down the middle, leaving yourself a tab at the top of each half, rather than cutting across and then not easily being able to unpeel the back from the bottom half.

Also, whilst it really won't make a jot of difference long term, it is advisable to stick with 14 days of estrogen then 14 days of combination, rather than the 28 days of estrogen then 28 days of combination that just moving through the pack halving each patch in order would give you.

It is impossible to say what effect halving the dose will have on your cycle, but as a general rule if you are having regular natural menstruation it probably won't make much difference, whereas if you are postmenopausal and just having withdrawal bleeds, these may lessen or disappear.
