Is anyone using the hormonal IUD at the same time as progesterone/utrogestan?  Especially curious if anyone has managed to take a higher dose of progesterone with Mirena, I am on 200 mg.

I got the Mirena last week after trying many other options, as my doctor told me I could continue my hrt regime and it would probably help with bleeding where everything else had failed.  I am back on 200 mg of progesterone nightly (with .1125 estradiol patch) and am having trouble continuing 200 mg progesterone with the Mirena so far -- I had a lot of bloating and felt pretty low mood wise.   I tried going down to 100mg progesterone and couldn't sleep, plus had out of this world anxiety.  I'm curious if my body will adjust to the Mirena and I will be able to tolerate the 200 mg progesterone again.

That's an awful lot of progestogen, I'm not surprised you feel lousy! The amount you get in the bloodstream from the mirena does decrease quite quickly so it's possible you could take more utro again. If it was me I'd stop the utro and let it settle. Is there a reason you want to take so much utro?

Thanks for your reply.

I tried going down to 100 mg progesterone, and I couldn't sleep.  Also, by the end of the day, I had out of this world anxiety.  I don't know if I had stuck with the lower dose longer if anything would have improved, but after a couple days I felt terrible in a different way, worse than with the 200 mg.

Right now I am squeezing half out of one 100 mg progesterone and taking one to try to approximate 150 mg, but it still feels like too much, and sleep isn't as good as before the mirena with the 200 mg progesterone.  I could try a lower dose of estrogen with a lower dose of progesterone I guess, but I have previously had problems going much lower on estrogen.

I was just curious if others are taking the progesterone with the Mirena, if it took time for the body to adjust and anything got better.  I will try to wait a few more weeks.

Is there a reason you are still taking utrogestan now that you have the mirena coil? When I got the mirena coil I was told to stop taking utrogestan.

Anxiety and insomnia are both symptoms of low oestrogen so it might be worth trying a higher dose. We're they meno symptoms of yours? They were my worst symptoms. Utrogeston is a sedative unlike the synthetic ones (it sedates me all day!) but it isn't ideal to use it just for it's sedating properties.

Yes, insomnia was a serious problem before starting hrt, now back when trying a lower dose of progesterone with the Mirena.  More estrogen is worth a try though, thank you for that!

Yes, unfortunately Mirena did nothing for my sleep, and all my original insomnia pre-hrt sx returned without progesterone.  My doctor said it was still fine to take the progesterone orally as well, for a more systemic effect.  I seem to do really well on it, and poorly without it, but the 200 mg is affecting me like 300 mg with the Mirena in; I just don't feel good, although I can sleep.  I've been trying 150 mg, and trying to be patient.
