Struggling!
« on: June 19, 2025, 09:02:29 AM »

Currently on 25mcg everol oestrogen only patch and finding it too high. My blood levels were 350, but I’m feeling symptoms of too much oestrogen- wired, anxious, full breasts, foggy heads and blurred eyesight.
I’ve tried other forms of hrt- gel, Lenzetto and still too high, even when tweeking to every other day, cutting the patch to a 3/4 which was ok but ended up being too low (also not advised by gynae)

I don’t understand why now (50yrs old) It’s feeling too much, when 6mths ago it was fine.
I had previous been asked to trial coming off the hrt, but got to week 4 and couldn’t cope, my blood levels were 39.

My next suggestion is oral oestrogen as it absorbs in a different way to transdermal.
What’s everyone’s experiences of this? I’m just concerned about a higher risk of clots.

Thanks

Some find that cutting patches works so that the body isn't overwhelmed!  MayB put the product name into the search box to read threads; make notes .-)

Perhaps you've had a spike in your own oestrogen? 25 is a very low dose so it's unlikely to be too much without some of your own. Possible you absorb more from it than the rest of us do though.

I just want to give a shout out for oral estradiol, it gets a really bad rap but the absolute difference in clot risk for a healthy user is marginal.

Something like 5000 women would have to take estradiol pills for a year for there to be a single extra blood clot.

It's not something I lose any sleep over, and the convenience and reliability is far superior to messing around with patches or gel.

I have previously used patches as an IVF patient, and whilst it was worth it short term to have my daughter, I would not entertain the faff, itching, coming off, sticking them down with surgical dressings, not being able to have a bath or shower when I wanted etc. long term.

Thanks bombsh3ll.
Can i ask if you experienced side effects from the oral, which you may have had with transdermal (apart from the patch coming off). I am literally mega sensitive.  i do wonder if it has anything to do with having an allergy and that's why i cannot tolerate the 25mcg patch now. Strange as a year ago I was fine with that dose, my body is somehow rejecting it

No I've never had any side effects from either, I am clinically "estrogen blind" and unable to tell whether my estradiol levels are sky high or rock bottom.

I used the patches for IVF and I take the oral estradiol as Zoely for menstrual suppression and bone protection.

Like patches, you can also cut an estradiol pill down to halves or quarter if you need or want to start very low.
