Hi I’m new on here and looking for advise
« on: May 26, 2025, 01:32:23 PM »

Hi all Would really like to reach out to anyone of a similar situation to me (I know menopause and symptoms are so different for everyone) I have had panic and anxiety disorder for 23 years. I’m 50 now. A few weeks back my anxiety and panic went to a whole new level. I’ve been in absolute bits at home at at work.  The way I sometimes feel is like I don’t want to be here anymore.  The sense of everything not feeling normal.  The doom and gloom.  Feeling scared. I have tried everything to pick my self up and be happy but is almost impossible.  I deep breathe, I mediate, I fast. I finally went to my GP last week and to be fair she was understanding and has booked me in for bloods next week with a follow up the following week to discuss HRT.  I’m scared but also so so hopeful that this is gonna help because I can’t take no more of this. I’ve been peri for maybe 6 years now but had a period in feb (previously gone 7 months and then 8 months with no period. Thank you everyone x

Hi Nancy and welcome to the forum. So sorry you're feeling so bad, anxiety and low mood are two of the common symptoms of meno, I had both, never been on HRT and battled through with the help of the lovely women on here.
Hopefully HRT will ease your symptoms.
You ARE NOT alone on here my lovely

Thank you so much for the reply!  May I ask why you didn’t try HRT?

There is a lot of breast cancer in my family,my mum,her sister and their mother,so I decided against it BUT I believe now that the guidelines have changed about hrt increasing the risk of bc so it really is a personal choice  :)

:welcomemm:  I've had panic attacks since age 3.  My GP has prescribed over the years 5mg Valium 3 times a day for 3 weeks, followed by 5mg at night dropped down to 1mg as necessary.  This worked well for years.  Later on suggested Propranolol which I took every night to ease early morning anxiety surges.  Again, that worked.  Now I have an emergency tablet for when anxiety floors me.

As well as taking 10mg of Anti-depressant I remain on the whole, well.  The early morning cortisol surges left me feeling terrified  :-\ :'(.

Some find that keeping a mood/food/symptom diary of use to chart progress and to see that not every day is bad.  For some reason peri can cause anxiety  :-\

SO sorry that're you're struggling.
I'm struggled with anxiety (Generalised Anxiety Disorder apparently) for 25 years and it is no joke. I only started taking medication a couple of years ago and it has made a big difference. I hope HRT or another regimen can help and you have some real life support too.
