Face flushing so fed up
«

Morning all,
In two minds if to stop hrt altogether! Im 45 Restarted hrt last Tuesday after stopping it for 5 weeks, long story but stopped as worried it was causing a rash/red face/hotness.In those 5 weeks my back face and chest has been so hot and unable to tolerate any heat. Restarted 2 pumps oestrogel last Tuesday and started my 2 weeks cycle 2 x 100mg each night of utrogestan on Monday this week. Woke up this morning and 1 side of my face is flushing, really warm and stinging..like burning but also bottom half feels shivery. Back is also really really warm. So fed up and really don't know what to do for the best.

Sorry, I can't really help.
But just wanted to question - could this be a histamine reaction? I'm sure you've tried, but high dose antihistamines worth a shot?
Estrogen feeds histamine so restarting might trigger a heightened response.

When I stopped the hrt for 5 weeks was having a similar reaction so I have assumed its a hot flushes? I did try antihistamine during the 5 week break and didn't seem to make a difference...now I have gone from bedroom to the cooler room downstairs with fan seems to have calmed down so would this mean it's a hot flush as arms chest and back really warm too? Problem is I'm so scared to carry on with hrt if it's the cause. It almost feels like sunburn. Thanks CrispyChick x

I'm sorry. I'm not really sure. My hot flushes come with intensity but calm quickly. But I guess we're all different.
The only thing I would say is if you think if is got flushes - worth upping the hrt dose to see if that helps? That way you'll know either way if get is the cause of if it's indeed hot flushes.
But I'm no expert. Somone else might have some thoughts/experience.

Logic is telling me that it is hot flushes due to low estrogen as day 18 in cycle so my own estrogen would currently be lower? Last week leading up to ovulation and had restarted oestrogel for about 2 days facial flushing was OK.. managed to sit in sun without going bright red and felt reasonably OK...Hope someone can provide some guidance x

I’m 47 and went back on oestrogel. My cheeks once turned red like fire alarms. I ditched it when a rash showed, but going off left me burning up from back to chest. Maybe tweak your gel amount or try a different timing slot. Chat with your doc or a pharmacist. You’ve got options beyond just stopping. So far, small cuts in dose eased my sweat blasts.

Hi FaraCee, yes this sounds exactly like me chest and back red hot as well as face flushing! I'm on 2 pumps estrogel which I understand is standard dose...have gp appointment beginning of June to discuss if dose needs adjusting...my red hot back snd chest started after I stopped hrt..so I'm assuming as I have only had 9 days worth of estrogel I'm being impatient expecting all this hotness to ease....did yours calm down once you restarted hrt ? Did you adjust dose? Dont know if i need more or less of estrogel? Thanks for replying..gives me hope x

Also just to add I assumed this face flushing and boiling hot feeling in chest, back, ears top of arms etc was caused by taking hrt by giving my body too high of a dose of hormones etc but looking into further the hormone levels in hrt are low compared to combined birth control pills which I took through late teens through to mid 30's with no trouble till I was unable to take anymore due to being a bit overweight and a few high blood pressure readings...I'm clearly spiralling and tying myself up in knots over something which I think I have overcomplicated..very typical of me
