Prolonged bleeding help
« on: May 19, 2025, 02:29:46 PM »

I am new to the forum and apologise if this has been asked multiple times.

I started HRT earlier this year. i have the patch 50mg for oestrogen and micronised progesterone on days 15-26.  The first 2 cycles were fine and had a bleed after the progesterone completed (4-5 days after)
The third cycle i finished the prigesterone, took it as i have same time every night and not missed any. The withdrawal bleed didn’t come for 10 days and it has not stopped and i’m on day 24, the progesterone didn’t stop it and i’d be due my next withdrawal bleed any day, i’m unsure if this will make the bleed heavier more like a regular bleed or is it likely there will be no withdrawal bleed? Has this happened to anyone? I had my 3 month check up and the nurse wanted to remove me from hrt there and then but agreed another couple of watch and wait cycles. She said i may need the mini pill as well.

In addition today i feel a heavy sensation in my pelvic area and feel like im passing small amounts of blood stained urine. Sorry for the long post I’m just feeling at a loss

Hi emmasumner. I've not got any real advice for you but just wanted to welcome you to the forum. I think that it would be a good idea if you could also post this under New Members as it might be missed on this section. More members would probably see your post there.

As for the bleeding I think it often depends on how your cycle was before you began HRT. If you were still having fairly regular periods then your own cycle can override the HRT. I didn't have this problem myself but I have seen on here that other members have. It seemed a bit of a kneejerk reaction for your doctor to say stop it and I too would have gone down the "try for a bit longer" route. Prolonged bleeding can be a pain (in all sorts of ways!) though so I hope you can get this sorted soon. Do you think you may have a urine infection if you are having the heavy feeling?

I'm sure others will be along soon to welcome you and share their experiences and give advice. It can take a while to find the right HRT by the way so don't despair.
