UPDATE: Uterine lining 8 mm No hrt use
« on: May 01, 2025, 04:49:00 PM »

Hello again

Just an update because I feel like so many of us (ME!) write something on the board at a terrifying time and recieve so much support... but then life happens, and we disappear back into our own lives. I know I've tried to glean info by following threads of other people, but then often see they just sort of stop, no more info or update. So in case going forward anyone needs to hear more on this topic, here's my update.

I got the results back from the endometrial biopsy and thankfully, BENIGN! A relief, yes.
I see a nurse practicioner rather than a gyno, so she was pleased as well. That said, she wants me to go for anotoher ultrasound in 5 months to see if the endometrial lining keeps growing, or if it stays the same or resolves somehow on its own.

The findings of the biopsy were: a benign polyp, fibroids (I already knew that), endometrial tissue with squamous metaplasia (meaning cells that don't belong in the uterus but have appeared and are non cancerous). There was no displasia or hyperplasia, no atypical cells.

The nurse says if in 5 months the lining remains thick or increases, I will do a D & C that will aslo be biopsied, followed by a hysterectomy, most likely.

She does not know WHY my endometrium is thickened, she only knows it shouldn't be. Perhaps because my uterus is occupied with all this stuff, I feel crampy and vaguely pressured in the area, as if always expecting a period. After the biopsy I had bleeding, then spotting for 5 days. Now it seems done.

I worry, because I'm a worrier, and I'm a worrier because I've witnessed much health suffering among those I love. Still, I hope adding to this thread helps someone else who is worried and maybe fills in some blanks.

Cheers to all!

original post:

Hello ladies

Thank you in advance for any calming information. Two years ago I had post meno bleed. Went for endo biopsy and ultrasound which were fine. Endometrial lining was "smooth, 2 mm." I'm in the US and was not using any form of HRT or bioidentical hormone treatment. The one time I did I had many reactions so it is no longer advised.

A week ago I saw a bit of "fiberous stuff" in urine that was pink. My gyno had me get an ultrasound which showed in 2 years my uterine lining had grown to 8 mm and is now showing "myocystic changes." that should be "investigated." Smaller than 4-5 is acceptable for linings where no HRT is being used.

Other than the bit of fibrous matter, which has since stopped, there has been no bleeding. I do feel sort of crampy and vaguely uncomfortable, and back in my menstrual days would have said I felt very pre-menstrual this entire month; breasts a bit swelled, you know that feeling.

Of course I am utterly terrified. I'm 65. I'm just wondering if this thickened lining can self resolve, or can be the result of low thyroid (I struggle with that). Any words of wisdom from fellow femailes whose linings are suspect?

Thanks again.

Hi  :welcomemm:

it may simply be a surge in hormones but suggest that U get an appt to discuss with a Gynaecologist for advice then a Plan should 1 be required, be put into place.  Is your Health Care covered with Insurance which may help getting an appt.

Who over sees your thyroid function which can be upset during peri menopause etc..  There are several threads about this on the Forum.  Browse round.  Make notes. Ask away.

Thank you so much for your calm and kind response! I'm seeing my thyroid dr who is my regular physician on Monday, so we'll go from there. I know you are correct about being calm and planning. I'm so glad to have this board though, because emotions run wild and are so not helpful.

Hi, about 2 years ago I had a bit of a post menopause bleed, the scan showed womb lining of 7mm. I don't take hrt.
After investigation nothing was found. I've seen a  couple or so threads on here with the same outcome.
Search the threads and have a read through, hopefully might help you x

Thank you so much for the support VioletAquarius! I truly appreciate you taking time to say this. I will definitely scout around the site more and see if there are other great outcomes like yours. I'm definitely not having fun Google-torturing myself!

Try not to worry Raisinette. Although easier said than done. I also had a thickened uterine lining on one scan but when rescanned it was a different measurement. Those myocystic changes could be fibroid degeneration. If you look at the facts here they are very reassuring:

https://www.jogc.com/article/S1701-2163(24)00414-6/abstract

"Postmenopausal women often have a thickening of the lining of the uterus found during ultrasound. Without bleeding, an endometrium <11 mm is rarely a serious problem but should be evaluated by a health care provider."

Thank you so very much KittyKats!
I really appreciate your compassionate words and that article as well. I'm trying to hope my own fibroids "made it seem like" the lining was enlarged... I'm so glad that you found your own issue was a non-issue. It's so hard being in one's own head about this with all our other life entanglements going on around the added worry. Again, thank you!
