Increases in thickness of womb lining
« on: April 29, 2025, 12:47:58 PM »

Update
Hysteroscopy and biopsy all normal . To carry on with vagifem 5 x per week .
What a relief.

Hi I recently saw a private Gyne who recommended increasing vagifem to deal with vaginal atrophy . I had an increase in spotting and had a vaginal scan last week . Remarkably straightforward and painless . The results show a thickening of the lining of the womb . Should I be panicking ladies ?

How thick is it? Are you on systemic hrt or only topical treatment?

Only vagifem . Dr didn’t say how thick . TBH the telephone consultation wasn’t great communication skills by the GP .

It's usually systemic hrt that thickens it. Are they sending you on the 2week pathway?

Hello Borchesterclass

According to Google and AI,  5 mm or less is the limit for womb thickness for post meno women not on HRT. I assume this refers to systemic HRT.

Back in the day I was found to have a lining of just over 4 mm after bleeding whilst using a 75 mg patch. I was referred for a scan and hysteroscopy but all was well. About a year ago I had another scan and my lining was 2 mm on Sandrena gel. I don't use any topical oestrogen.

Due to your scan results your GP may err on the side of caution and refer you for further investigations on the two week pathway.

Take care and wishing you well.
