Second Bleed
« on: April 26, 2025, 02:00:46 PM »

I posted last month about having a bleed at 62. I am on HRT which doesn't seem to be absorbing well. I had 5 days bleeding, it was light but there was a lot of pain. I was sent to hospital for an internal scan as well as being examined by the Gynae. Nothing abnormal detected, the endometrial lining measured 3.5cm. Exactly a month later, after applying Oestrogel in a different place, where my skins seems less dry I have started to bleed again, its not as painful so far but I am slightly concerned why I have suddenly started to stop absorbing as well.Ive been on Oestrogel a good few years now.  I am not using any new washes or creams. Its exactly a month to the day from the first bleed, surely this cannot be regarded as a period at my age. As I had Endometriosis before Menopause I can not help feeling nervous this bleed could be something else going on. My daughter pointed out to me over Easter I was irritable and cranky with a short fuse over nothing just how she goes before her period. I also had a few fleeting day time hot surges whilst out shopping which I put down to being flustered in the crowds and disliking trying things on. Am I over worrying, considering Ive had a scan and examination? I am due for a smear, is this a good enough check for cell changes or is it just a basic sceen for other conditions? Sorry for so many questions I am just not sure how to think about this with a rational approach right now. Is this a lack of hormones causing a monthly cycle to return?
The Gynae I saw was a bit short and dismissive about being on HRT at my age so I am not sure how to approach it all. Thank you for any ideas/ shares that you have ladies  :)

The fact that you have had a normal scan recently is very reassuring. Cervical screening is important to keep up to date however this looks for precancerous cell changes in the cervix so is not particularly useful to investigate bleeding. If there was any significant cervical lesion however the gynaecologist would have been able to see it on examination.

It is not unheard of for old ovaries to randomly chuck out a last egg, causing period like cramps and bleeding.

However the likelier explanation is inconsistent absorption of your gel. Vaginal atrophy is also a possibility if your dose is very low.

What about changing to a patch instead? This can be a more reliable and consistent form of delivery than gels.

Good to have your thought's bombsh3ll
I was with a friend today and told her about this and she said the cervical smear has changed to only checking for HPV virus. That sounds incorrect but will check it out. I will get a smear done as soon as I’m over this. The random old egg sounds feasible. I wonder though as this has happened on the exact date again a month later
I started off on patches and then due to absorption issues I switched to gel. I am thinking of Lanzetto to try next and after that I may have to re think the whole approach, whether to give up or not. I have felt a bit rubbish, with familiar symptoms from pre menopausal hormone woes returning. I hope it doesn’t come to that as I don’t think I can face feeling like this all the time.
