Returning
« on: April 26, 2025, 10:29:59 AM »

Hi all

I came onto the forum a couple of years ago - my first dalliance with HRT and I had bad intolerance to progesterone so had to stop.

So once again I'm giving it a go as symptoms don't seem to go away! Thankfully this website is a font of information and knowledge.  :)

I'm pushing 61, 9 years post meno and fed up with never feeling like I can function properly.

Cheers

Hi Tribbins

Welcome back! Sorry to hear you are still not functioning properly even though over 60 and well post-menopause. How can we help?

Hi Hurdity and thanks for your welcome :-)

I've been prescribed Evorel Conti as I did so badly with Utrogestan previously - unfortunately I'm hugely sensitive to just about everything so have started a slow increase of Evorel 25 (I'm up to a 1/4 patch) and once I feel ok with that I'm going to introduce part of the conti patch, as they only come in 50mg.

I'm reading posts on the forum for encouragement and ideas! Daily headache/migraines, anxiety, no energy or motivation, poor sleep, histamine issues, too hot at night and then backache/foot pain started, final straw! Also SAD which occurs every winter since menopause, hence by February/March I'm not functioning.

Best wishes

Hi Tribbins

Just posting on the off chance that you may be checking messages. I just saw some of your post dash you mention histamine sensitivity. Have you investigated MCAS - I have had a horrible time with HRT because of it and the things you mentioned sound like those associated with MCAS of course I’m no Doctor. Just mentioning it in case you haven’t and it helps. I have been seeing Dr Corinne Fletcher, she has been really good. I have honestly had a nightmare. Similar issues to you with oestrogen. A very low dose kicked off terrible palpitations. If it is this, there is help out there. Anyway, hope things are better for you now.

I've heard loads of women have problems with the synthetic oestrogen part of the evorel Conti.
Good news though, you can get oestrogen only patches and real progesterone capsules from your doctor, these can be taken orally or vaginally, as oral can be sedating or cause other problems but vaginal works well for most.
Also, your oestrogen dose may need looking at. I went down to 25mcg for years on the advice of my doctors, but another doctor had me get blood tests and I was very low on it, so she increased it and will increase it if I need more, after I try this current treatment plan out.

Hi CLKD - it’s called mast cell activation syndrome. Basically the more oestrogen you take or fluctuations during your periods if you have them, causes an increase in histamine. That can affect many parts of the body given that there are lots of histamine receptors everywhere. Most people associate histamine with coming out in hives but actually the list of symptoms is endless. You don’t necessarily have to have had any hives. For me I’m having cardiac problems. Most doctors don’t recognise this syndrome at all but where someone is really struggling with HRT, I was told by a doctor that this is always something to consider – basically if you get worse on HRT then it could be this. The increase in oestrogen, as with me, just makes things worse even if they were initially better. I have learnt that you have to go really really low and slow even if your oestrogen levels are showing a lack of absorption – doesn’t necessarily mean you’re not absorbing apparently. As I mentioned in a post above, I have been seeing Dr Corinne Fletcher menopause specialist but also who has an interest in histamine issues. As well as very low doses of oestrogen, I am also trying a different kind of progesterone, vaginally. There is also an option to try compound oestrogen and progesterone i.e. the products without all the things that are added in – it is the things that are added in which caused the histamine issues. Hope that helps.

Hi Dandelion,

Sorry to jump in on this thread. I saw in another post writt4n a while ago, where you were looking for safe ways to taper off of Utrogestan safely, because of cross tolerance with benzos. Long story short I've ended up in some kind of utrogestan benzo hell. I came off of utrogetsan 2 months ago and things went crazy, lots of And E visits over one weekend. I'm just wondering if you found a way to taper down safely. I tried again recently, and had to go back on at a higher dose. No doctor will listen, they think it is pmdd.
