Further drop in hormones at 51?
« on: April 26, 2025, 08:13:31 AM »

Hi everyone,

I have what I think is often called reproductive depression (bouts of depression related to hormonal flux such as PND, PMT and perimenopause).

I have been well for about 4 years following feeling really anxious and low when peri first hit when I was 44 and then 2 years after that.

I am now 51 and experiencing a dip with anxiety.

Did anyone in a similar (or not similar!) situation need their HRT adjusted around 51 (the average age for menopause). Just wondering if I am in menopause now.

I am waiting for an appt at LMPC (London menopause and pms clinic). I have seen them before as I also have progesterone intolerance.

I take a high amount of oestrogen (100 mg patch, 2 pumps of oestrogel, Provera for 7 days a month and a small blob of testogel) currently (I have had a scan and all good with the womb lining on this regime).

Thank you xx

Opps read it once  ;).  It's possible that hormones continue to drop intermittently for ever.

When was your last bleed?  Those years in peri begin giving strange symptoms followed by the last period = menopause proper.  Some are OK until into menopause when symptoms begin  ::) there's no Rhyme nor Reason.

MayB consider appropriate anti-depression medication if this is your main problem?  Sometimes 8-12 months helps those symptoms without the need to alter an HRT regime.

Let us know how you get on?

Yes, perfectly possible. Even after meno the ovaries still produce some oestrogen before they die completely.

Absolutely this is possible, menopause as a process and as the ovaries fail it is logical that to maintain the same results, additional hormonal supplementation is needed.

I can tell from your existing treatment that you have access to a high standard of care and an individualised approach, so hopefully you will be on the right track after your appointment.
