Hello Ladies

In the last six months my doctor changed my prescription saying Ovestin was no longer available.
I have used Ovestin very successfully for the last ten years for Vaginal Atrophy.
I was not happy about the change but had no choice.

The Estriol is much less strong than Ovestin but the applicator is bigger so you have to insert a much larger amount.

This is my problem, a lot of the cream simply comes straight back out in the morning when I get up.
I therefore feel I am not absorbing as much as I need. I certainly do not feel as comfortable as I used to.

I tried only half filling the applicator and using it 4 times a week instead of 2 thinking I might absorb more that way but it all seems to come back out. The whole procedure is now very messy.

Any of you ladies have any thoughts on the best way to proceed?

Your doctor has prescribed the wrong Estriol. There are two different dosages, Estriol 0.1 which is the new name for Ovestin and nothing else has changed.
Estriol 0.01 is the weaker one but you have to use lots more for it to be equivalent to Estriol 0.1.mg.
Ask the doctor to change the prescription to Estriol 0.1 and you will get the old Ovestin renamed Estriol.

Use up what you have been prescribed by using more.  Explain to your GP Surgery the two types, my estriol is still labelled as 'ovestin'

The chemist made me go back to the doctor and ask them to write Estriol 0.1mg on the prescription before they would issue it when it was renamed.
