Hi Ladies, my current blood test shows my Estrogen to be 124pmol/L I think this may be a bit low for bone protection, any idea?

Hi there,

My meno specialist said she prefers the level to be 300-400, at 200 she took me off patches as she said I wasn’t absorbing enough.
I’m post meno.  Do you have symptoms of low oestrogen?

Hi no was done privately no comments and have zero symptoms at all but do have Osteoporosis, so my main concern is getting enough Oestrogen to prevent deterioration & I know theres a golden standard the Osteo Drs like to recommend, just not sure what it is.... tx Ladies

I think Louise Newson says 250 to maintain and 400 to build. Can anyone confirm this as I'm also taking hrt for bone density. This is what I'm aiming for myself
I assume Newson is  basing it off this study....https://journals.lww.com/menopausejournal/fulltext/2025/02000/the_range_and_variation_in_serum_estradiol.2.aspx

Professor Studd's recommendation was 300pmol/L as the minimum threshold for bone protection. References to this can still be found via his website which is still available even though he has now passed away.

This doesn't mean optimal, and I personally wouldn't accept below 400pmol/L.

Both my parents have osteoporosis and I also don't get symptoms with low estrogen, so blood testing is necessary for me.

The problem with some of the studies comparing very low doses of estrogen to either a placebo or no treatment, is that they deemed the estrogen to be successful even if the treatment group were still losing bone hand over fist, as long as this was happening less rapidly than the untreated group.

Cassie, I would say that is way too low and any benefits you get from that level would be a placebo effect.

If it was pg/mL it would be perfect but in pmol it needs to be over 300 to have any real benefits.

I would double the dose immediately.

What would be the advice to raise it then, as mine is less than 200 now too and joints ache again ( among other things).

On 4 pumps oestrogel. Changing to Sandrena to see if that will help, but not expecting much as sandrena dose of 2 sachets is less, so not sure why that should improve levels..

Consultant seemed not to be bothered or particularly hopeful.

Interesting. My level was 255mol on a 75 patch and I still have symptoms including hot flushes, weakness/fatigue etc. I’m guessing I need quite a bit more myself to manage these but now worried about having to up my progesterone. I’m very sensitive to the metabolic effects of it and am now considering the mirena so I can safely up my oestrogen.
