Testosterone and low mood/irritability
« on: April 22, 2025, 11:57:55 AM »

Hi all,

I’ve been suffering with lack of libido and terrible brain fog for a couple of years now. I finally had my T tested and it came back as low (0.5) so the doc gave me Testogel. At first I felt great - like my brain had started back up again and libido coming back gradually, but the last few days I’m feeling really irritable and have a really low mood. Also feeling more tense and anxious. I decided to just use a teeny bit every other day to see if that helped which I’ve been doing for about a week now but I’m still feeling the same.

I guess my question is - do you think it’s worth persevering and will the irritability settle down eventually?

I’m on Everol 75 patch, utrogestan vaginally and am 48yrs old. Periods still going but getting further apart.

Thanks so much ladies x

Hi smurph
It could be your own hormone levels fluctuating in the background,
I am the same though, if I have too much testosterone gel I feel that way, so I only use a pea sized blob, any more and I'm grouchy with low mood, I guess some of us are sensitive to hormone replacement, in that case start low and increase gradually..  I use testosterone every day now in the morning..
Good luck and best wishes

Thank you ☺️ It’s good to know that someone else gets the low mood etc.

I wonder if I should reduce again to just three times a week but then think would that even be worth it given I’m only using a minute amount now anyway. I don’t know if I can even tolerate it even tho my T is low. I would have thought I wouldn’t get these side effects if I really needed it, but like you say if my own hormones are up and down it’s impossible to know how it will make me feel really from one day to the next  :-\

If you don't mind me asking where do you apply it, only asking as I used to put it on my arms, and found it absorbed really quickly and I felt weird, I know that sounds silly, but I now put it on my lower trunk and it's better, still only a tiny amount though but daily, I like you can't tolerate too much, if you feel better with three times a week then stick to that, you may find you could increase in time,
As with all meds comes side effects, it may need time to settle down before you can benefit if that makes sense..

I’ve been putting it on lower inner thigh as read that someone here does that.

I guess I just thought testosterone would be an easy one to get right compared to oestrogen and prog. Naive or what! 😅

Fingers crossed I can carry on with it as it does really help with sharpness/concentration when working and really need to get back to  sexy times in my relationship 😆

Appreciate you responding and glad it’s working well for you! X
