Let us know how you get on. Is there anything on the MM site in the pink with white writing on at the top?

We don't have anything on QT stuff. Just cardiovascular disease (CVD).

Some info (don't trust me, I'm not a health wotsit) -

QT interval: Oestrogel may slightly prolong it; Utrogestan might counterbalance that effect or be neutral.

Arrhythmias: Utrogestan is less likely to cause arrhythmias and may actually be stabilising, but hormone fluctuations themselves can contribute to palpitations or arrhythmic symptoms in sensitive individuals.

Minicat have you got a link regarding the Oestrogel as my understanding is it can be any type of Estrogen that can prolong the QT interval, the original poster just happens to be on the gel... :-\

I did a little search on all the Oestrogen only recommendations on here and almost all of them mention theres a slight risk of long QT Syndrome whilst on Estrogen only so I dont think its Oestrogel itself but any Estrogen and that the Progesterone seems to counteract this...interesting chat. Nonetheless, I still do not understand, what about all the many women who have had hysterectomies & use Estrogen only, why are there no risk warnings on the pamphlets....

Thanks ladies for all your responses. Interesting comments. I haven't got Long QT but my corrected QTc was 489ms whilst I was sleeping which is out of range. I haven't had this before.

I have dysautonomia which I've discussed with bombsh3ll before :D. This could contribute as I have fluctuating systolic blood pressure that can be quite low in the 70s. It's so hard for us to know what to do. Whether HRT is right for us or not. For me it hasn't been a cure all but I haven't been able to have more than a standard to moderate dose as I have lots of fibroids!

I have so many palpitations and I get these bursts at 180bpm of sudden onset/offset SV runs. I think I have more now than before I started the HRT 5 years ago. But who knows if it's caused by it. It might be just my being post menopausal. It's such an adjustment getting used to a new body and not one I feel particularly great in  :-\

I too think that menopause itself probably causes an irritable heart in many, and it is probably that rather than hormone therapy.

But since men and younger women don't turn up in cardiology clinics with palpitations in the same numbers as middle aged women, the finger is pointed at HRT.

It's kind of like saying Metformin has been associated with cardiovascular disease. It's the population using it ie diabetics that have the increased risk, the drug is an innocent bystander.

Whilst I personally have no plans to find out, I suspect that untreated/suboptimally treated menopause and dysautonomia probably make extremely poor bedfellows.

I have heard menopause characterised as a form of autonomic dysfunction, which I quite like - my body became high maintenance at 34, now everyone else's is catching up!
