Hello and help
« on: April 14, 2025, 03:03:04 PM »

Hi everyone

New here and very apprehensive about starting oestrogen. My mum died of breast cancer but I have far healthier lifestyle choices so after discussing with G.P the time has come to try oestrogen.

I'm on my 4th mirena (first one in 2011 after my son was born)..... I can't cope with the joint/muscle pain, constant feeling of being hot/bothered and ragey with an under lying anxiety.....I'm now 52, tried oestrogel in 2023, dived straight in with two pumps and it was awful. Anxiety spiked, insomnia and bled immediately so I stopped after three days petrified, which I was gutted about as I remember my joints felt easier.

I'm now starting again (last week 10.4.25)with sandrena so I can halve the sachet..... I tried a full sachet Saturday and had poor sleep and felt wired... I'm slowly adding more "blobs" from the sachet building up to a full 500mg... I'm like a junkie measuring on some old jewellery scales I found 😳🤪🫣...... Has anyone else started ultra low or experienced a fast response?

This page is fab.... Grateful for all the advice❤️

some find that keeping a mood/food/symptom diary of use to chart progress

Oestrogen replacement can certainly ease aches and pains.  As levels drop the body may become dry: inside and out; scalp, skin, deep in the ears, eyes, vagina and muscles may become lax = aches and pains.

If u don't get a response U can put the name of the product into the search box.  Read the threads and make notes ;-)

Some people are more sensitive than others. If you're one the advice is to start low and increase slowly so your body has time to get used to it. If you feel wired I would reduce again.

Absolutely there's no harm in starting low and building up to a therapeutic dose.

Also a bit of bleeding is common in the first few months of hormone therapy so there's no need to be frightened if this happens again.

If you feel comfortable with gel that's fine but sometimes patches can be easier to customise your dose by cutting them down to size with a pair of scissors rather than weighing out messy goop on drug dealer scales.

Also if you feel particularly worried - which is irrational but I understand what it is like trying a new medication - knowing you could remove a patch at any time if you chose to can be reassuring.

Thanks so much for replies. Just needed some reassurance I think❤️
I am going to carry on sandrena but patches are definitely something I have been considering.

We have come away for an Easter break and my god my alcohol tolerance has gone. I feel horrific today after some wines with my sister in law. I'm not drinking until I am well established on my oestrogen 🤢...... Anyone else had this?..... My heart rate normally 60s it's not been below 80 ......
