Hair loss & Evrol Conti patches
« on: April 12, 2025, 06:06:44 PM »

Hi,  I’m new to this site & would really appreciate your feedback. I’ve been on Evrol Conti patches  for the past 3 years. Only taking a 1/4 of patch 3 times a week. It seemed to agree with me so didn’t question it. Over the years I noticed I was shedding lots of hair. At first I thought it was after having covid . Nobody really noticed my thinning hair but I did. I think you know when you start to lose hair.  Now I’m convinced it’s from my HRT. That’s the only thing that’s different. Has anyone experienced this with these patches & if so what’s the alternative? Thank you in advance 🙏

Welcome.  I believe that as we age the hair doesn't grow back as quickly and may be thinner in its structure. So probably hormonally related in a natural way.  There are several comments about hair loss on the Forum so hopefully some1 will be along.

Hi Delimelly,

I have very thick hair. I was peri for 7 years before I started HRT which was oestrogel/utrogestan for 2 years and didn't notice any hair loss. I swapped to Evorel conti and a few months later noticed thinning/receding around my temples. I have no idea if it was caused by the patches (I believe hair-thinning occurs naturally as we age) but it did seem a bit of a co-incidence and I did wonder. I stopped the patches 3 months ago and my hair seems back to normal.

Maybe try a different HRT and see if there is a difference?

I have been experiencing a lot of hair loss following being anemic. I tried various vitamins but nothing helped. I'm now on Oestrogel 2 pumps and Utrogestan 100mg and the hair loss stopped within the first month. Maybe you need to change what you're on as some contain testosterone which can affect your hair.

Evorel Conti contains a synthetic progestin which can indeed increase androgens in many women and lead to hair loss.

See the table here: https://www.larabriden.com/the-crucial-difference-between-progesterone-and-progestins/

Synthetic progestins aren't good for lots of other reasons, so you probably want to switch to utrogestan which is the gold standard body identical progesterone.

There are other causes of hair loss, so you should run a full thyroid panel and make sure your ferritin is over 100.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I’m off to see a hormone specialist next month so hopefully get a hair friendly HRT! Plus I have had blood tests & no underlying health concerns came up.

Evorel Conti caused my hair to fall out in handfuls. Even my hairdresser was shocked at the amount I was losing.

I have been on Evorel Conti for about 5 years and haven't had any hair loss (unless you also mean pubic hair which is reduced). My hair on my head has remained thick and fast growing.
