Experiencing soreness when passing urine but there is no infection only raised white blood cells. Was using Vagifem each night for 3 weeks plus Estriol cream. Am now using Vagifem every other night and the cream each evening. However I get  this sore feeling ( not agony) when passing urine and also most of the time . I wonder whether I should go back to nightly with the Vagifem tablets and also the cream.

Yep.  It's a bit Trial and Error until symptoms are under control.  When symptoms niggle I swallow 2 Nurofen to ease that nip as the urine flow shuts off which makes me go goosebumps!

Thanks CKLD. It certainly is trial and error.   The burning is not too bad  today but I thought I would do a dipstick test this morning before taking one into the surgery. The white cells are not too bad but there are traces of blood ( or visible). There is no odour but the urine is slightly cloudy is this all  VA related ?,

Must admit that I have had this  on and off for years and the only time my urine is clear is straight after antibiotics! But  I certainly do not want to go on continuous AB. Have upped my water intake so hopefully that will help a bit.                                                                                                             I do have a uterine prolapse so maybe that has something to do with it. Have got an appointment with a uro gynae but not until mid July.

Also going through a very stressful time with my daughter who has very severe MS and receiving no help from her GP or consultant  as we can’t get hold of anyone. So I am really struggling at the moment and can’t afford to be ill.

If it's vaginal atrophy traces of blood should be expected.   Nowt to stress over.

U rant away!  A prolapse may make symptoms more problematic.  Get some VA treatment and if your DD has MS there should be advice on the Society website?

I've had all the symptoms you mention apart from the prolapse.
Using a moisturiser alongside the treatment can be very helpful and soothing if not using already, its part of my regime of daily Vagifem and Estriol, it keeps my symptoms well under control.

Thanks Ayesha. Can I ask how long you have used Vagifem daily.  Over the last few months I have seen two doctors ,one who was adamant that after 2 weeks I had to drop down to only twice a week. The other doctor said I could sometimes use it every other day for a couple of weeks max.

At the moment I really feel I need to use Vagifem plus the estriol cream daily at least for 3 months. As CKLD said it really is trial and error but just concerned to go against instructions ( which isn’t really like me !!!

I have run onto the 'system says No' problem as well. The amount that gets absorbed systemically is negligible so it's really just nhs gate keeping. If I don't use vagifem every 2 days I'm incontinent and without daily cream the end of my urethra is painful. So I'm going to keep seeing my gp to get a loading dose every month until they twig.

It isn't good enough is it.  Would a diabetic or heart patient be denied essential medication?

Posts like yours make me very angry because what they are putting you through is unnecessary, your surgery are showing they have no knowledge of how topical oestrogen works and are associating it with systemic HRT. The two treatments are completely different.

I have been on Vagifem and Estriol every day for over four years, with my previous surgery I was lucky to have a gynae GP who told me all about how topical oestrogen worked, she said its safe to use every day that she herself is on a daily regime.
My new surgery I had an HRT review, the nurse was fantastic and agreed with daily use. Further down the line it was time for my annual medication review with the GP, he asked me straight away if I had been prescribed Vagifem daily by a gynaecologist, I answered yes and we ended up having a great conversation about its safety and the fact I don't follow the NICE guidelines but the recommendations of the BSSM.
He totally agreed with my daily use of topical oestrogen and understands that every woman is different and he also agreed with my views on NICE, they are not very nice to women. He doesn't understand the fuss surrounding topical oestrogen when it compares to taking one HRT tablet a year.

Being able to speak with knowledge about topical oestrogen has helped me enormously because many medics have no idea how it works, I would urge you to be pro-active and be assertive with those that say no, demand what is your right and stand no nonsense from them, I don't.
