Painful breasts
« on: April 12, 2025, 01:22:53 PM »

Hi ladies I’m new to this forum was hoping for some advice.
I’m 54 probably nearing the end of peri, had mirena fitted 2022 due to heavy periods and a polyp that was removed. Was also on Oestrogen HRT 1 pump a day and all was good. Aprox 7 months in started spotting which scared me as family history of ovarian cancer. Was told to stop Oestrogen HRT Was referred for USScan found womb lining 6mm thick. Gynaecology saw no need for further tests as by this time the spotting had stopped. Fast forward Jan 24. Have had 3 further episodes of vaginal spotting. Scared stiff back at GP who do a 2 week pathway referral. Ended up having hysteroscopy told 6mm lining not a concern as coil doing its job. Removed another polyp, cervix looked inflamed (this had happened before) so to be on safe side sending me for an colposcopy. Currently waiting for this appt and results of polyp biopsy however this past 2 weeks have had terrible breast pain just in right side, burning sensation coming from within, also muscular aching in my shoulder blade. No lumps evident. Now stressing over this. Is iit all likely to be due to low oestrogen?
Wanting to go back
On gel but med to wait for all test results to hopefully be bless negate them, anyone else experiencing breast tenderness/pain ? Any suggestions?

Welcome.  My breasts are often tender and I don't use HRT.  Is there really a necessity to stop treatment?  I would ring the dept to see when the appt is likely to be, if it's more than 2 months I would ask to restart because apps can be postponed over and over .

Some find that keeping a mood/food/symptom diary of use too.  Let us know how you get on.  Have U tried pain relief ?

I suffered with underarm pain, which moved into the breast sometimes, during peri, and after researching found that this is a very common peri symptom.

Thanks both for responding I really appreciate it.
With regards to the HRT gel I’ve been advised best not to start it again until all tests complete and hopefully all clear. My colposcopy is 1st May so not too much further to wait.
When you suffered with breast pain was it both sides or just 1. I think that’s what I find worrying it only being on 1 side. If it’s hormonal wouldn’t it be both sides.
I’ve started taking ibuprofen tablets to see if it helps and also been swimming today hoping the muscular ache in my shoulder blade under arm and breast might ease up.
This has been going on over a week now with no sign of easing so hoping to try and get a GP appointment for reassurance.

Hi Mazda

It was just on one side

A friend of a friend had breast pain on one side, which went through to her back, during her peri.

During my research on this, all the pain during peri experienced by women was one sided.
