What do your night sweats feel like?
« on: April 10, 2025, 02:19:51 PM »

Hello,
I'm interested in what night sweats feel like to different people, what I've read online doesn't necessarily match what I'm getting. Starting about a month ago I've woken sweaty a couple of times a week, and twice bad enough to wet the sheets. I don't feel any lingering heat though, once I've woken and got up, and no blotchy skin or redness. As soon as I'm up I'm damp and cold, and then need to warm up again! I'm not experiencing hot flushes when awake.
cheers :)

My experience of night sweats sounds the same as yours.  I would wake up damp and cold (did not feel hot).  Sometimes I'd be so cold I had to change in the middle of the night, especially when in winter pjs as they'd be sticking to my skin. Often in summer pjs I would fall back aleep without changing (less clothes so less clinging to the skin).

I have since realised that before the drenching sweats I had noticed sweat between my breasts for quite a while (many months) at night.  Guessing this was the preamble to the drenching sweats.

I also don't believe I've had any daytime hot flushes.

Have my hrt at a sufficient dose now so no night sweats at the moment  :)

Mine are like I wake up with sweaty wrists (!) on a good night. A very sweaty night and I'll wake up cold with damp pj.

Now, I've been through chemical menopause, and, for me, night sweats are nothing to do with low estrogen or hot flushes. When I had zero estrogen I got intense flushes, mostly at night. Not a drop of sweat.

Sweats are changing hormones for me. I've had a very high E month here in peri and now I'm pre period the sweats have started. Not had a single hot flush this month.

My sweats can make me very smelly  :o

Night sweats for me are a sudden intense heat like I’m in a furnace no sweating though , it lasts only minutes then I’m freezing cold so on and off all night with the duvet and fan stays on all night , I’m post menopause and not on hrt anymore.
Peri menopause ( was on hrt )I had drenching sweats on a night damp pjs and any physical activity during the day I would pour with sweat my hair would be soaked, not sure why my type of sweats have changed. X

Asher - I think that's what I spotted in chem meno.

Sweats seem to be peri and changing hormones. Whereas the flushes (furnace) seem to be low E.

If I'm honest, I prefer the sweats. But I don't want to stay in this peri hell much longer.  :o

Hi crispy chick ,

I agree think the furnace feeling is definitely low E , I don’t like it and it’s an intense feeling but I’m sure glad to be out of the hell that is peri lasted 15 long years for me .

Hope this peri misery ends for you soon.
it sure is a long and horrible journey for some of us , wishing you better days ahead x

I wake up and I'm dripping in sweat on my bum and top of my legs. It's literally running down me. No getting hot or cold, just running sweat  :'(

I have noticed when I have the burning cheek feeling (hot flash) I get other symptoms of low oestrogen with it such as feeling achy, itchy and dry. Whereas I seemed to get the sweats when my hormones would fluctuate all over the place before I started HRT and also when I increased my HRT I had a sweat the day after which I think was because of the surge in oestrogen. I haven’t had one since then though so I think my hormones have settled to the new regime now
