Hi Ladies

To cut a very long story short I’ve been put on Lenzetto as I wasn’t absorbing the estrogel.  I’m a bit concerned (as this is also estrogen absorbed by the skin) that I will have the same problem and my GP won’t allow a blood test to check levels before 3 months of taking it.  If anyone has got any insight/experience that they could share it would be really appreciated.

Hormonal blood tests are reliably un-reliable, however I don't know why it's necessary after 3 months anyway?  MayB keep a mood/food/symptom diary to chart progress to discuss with the GP?

Personally, I found Lenzetto very weak. I was trialled on it after being on Oestrogel, which I was happy with but it was something my previous specialist recommended for most of her patients. I think she also felt that there was less room for error in the application of Lenzetto, compared to Oestrogel, in terms of where you apply it and how thinly you spread it, giving it enough time to dry etc.

However, all my symptoms returned with Lenzetto. I also found that the amount of liquid that came out of each spray seemed to vary quite a bit.

My GP swapped me from Oestrogel to Lenzetto in August when I told her my symptoms were returning again - I'd previously increased from 2 to 3 pumps and had added another half pump, at a review I told her I felt I needed a further increase. She told me she'd had other patients complaining about oestrogel so suggested I change to Lenzetto.

I started on 2 sprays but found it not quite enough so increased to 3 after a couple of months. I actually prefer it to oestrogel, it dries far more quickly and is less messy to apply. I've been on 3 sprays since November and feel pretty stable.

I've no idea on my oestrogen levels, I am guided by symptom control (i know lots of women prefer to know their levels)and find Lenzetto better, for me, than Oestrogel.

Give it a go, we're all so different and you might find it suits you like it does me and if it doesn't then at least you can go back to GP, tell them that its not alleviating your symptoms, and request a different oestrogen.

Blood tests for estradiol aren't helpful on gel as it peaks rapidly and then leaves the plasma equally rapidly. So you can test artificially high or low depending on when you applied it.

Adjusting your dose based on this can result in under or over treatment.

You can only really go by clinical response on gel/sprays.

However if you are really keen on testing you can do it privately from the likes of medichecks, randox or forthwithlife.

Indirect markers such as FSH and SHBG can give you a rough idea regarding absorption but these are not clinically validated and you would need to know baseline levels to monitor any change.

Thank you for all your replies.  Interesting that the blood tests may not be accurate.  My main symptom has always been anxiety since starting the menopause which was masked by taking an anti-depressant but I wanted to see how I felt off it and it came straight back which is why I had a blood test and the low Estrogen levels were picked up then.  Will see if the Lenzetto makes any difference.
