Mirena coil changed my life.

I'm just scared that if desogestrel didn't work, the Mirena might not work for me either, then I've got the hassle of waiting for an appointment to have it removed 🤷

There is no relation between how your body reacts to an oral progestogen and a Mirena coil. The coil delivers high dose progestogen directly to your uterus where it acts to prevent thickening. If you have very heavy bleeding and still having periods then it probably won't stop the bleeding as such, but will greatly diminsh it, once your body has acclimatised.

The good thing about the Mirena is that the blood levels of progestogens are MUCH  lower than the equivalent oral progestogens taken for contraception as in the mini pill.

So if the desogestrel either hasn't worked or you are getting terrible side effects that have perisisted I would seriously think about the Mirena.

Presumably everything has been checked out to make sure there are no abnormal reasons for the heavy bleeding?
