Hi,
I’ve used Mirena coils for the progestogen part of my HRT ever since I started my hrt journey in 2015.
I had my third coil fitted almost a month ago.
It wasn’t the easiest of fittings this time (done by Specialist Doctor at my GP surgery) I originally went a month previous, but when she removed my old coil, my cervix went into spasm and she couldn’t insert the new one.
So I had to use utrogestan (vaginally as I’m too sensitive to it orally) in the interim.
She managed to fit this one almost 4 weeks ago, and I had quite painful cramping and more than spotting for the rest of that day. She advised I use utrogestan for a few more days until the Mirena settled and took over(never done that previously)
The next day no bleeding, used utrogestan for three nights then stopped, and within 4 days I was bleeding again and dull period like pains, again, more than spotting, enough to need a light pad.
I called the doctor after three days of this, and she advised I use utrogestan every night for a week, and has referred me for an ultra sound, and booked me in the get strings checked.
Strings are fine, ultra sound not until 13th April.
I used the utrogestan for a week, and bleeding stopped, thought I’d wean myself off and try every other night rather than stop completely, so been using every other night this week and today I’ve started bleeding again 🤦♀️
I can’t keep using utrogestan AND Mirena, never had to before and never had any bleeding after my second coil, I had spotting for about 3 months with my first, but this time it’s really getting to me.
I don’t know what to do, whether to just stop using utrogestan and hope the bleeding stops eventually or whether to keep using it which seems wrong to me, plus even using it vaginally it makes me so tired and grumpy!
Any advice please? I’m really struggling with it.
I’m 60 and post menopausal since 2014.
