Hayfever
« on: March 28, 2025, 02:20:11 PM »

Is anyone else suffering with terrible hay-fever ? Mine started 2 weeks ago , a reaction to tree pollen, and to say I’ve been ill with it ,would be an understatement ! Anti histamines are barely touching it and now my throat feels so sore ! Anyone else ?

Yes same here… I always start at this time of year. Ears, throat, headache….generally feeling ill. Tablets don’t seem to be doing much.

Are you absolutely certain it's hayfever? Reason I ask is that a few years ago I had what I thought was extremely bad hayfever, same as your description, and I took anti-histamines for a week with no effect. Someone suggested it might actually be a cold so i took cold pills and felt better within a few hours.
I have also had the absolutely horrendous tree pollen hayfever too, but found it was only really horrible for a few days.

Thanks for replying ladies …. Took a covid test earlier because I can’t believe how sore my throat is . Its negative ..
I do unfortunately (or fortunately) live near quite a lot of different species of trees  , but never had hay fever this bad before 😩
Not sure what to do if the anti histamines are not really helping . X

Yes definitely earlier Dotty  !  I’m taking  one Clarityn tablet. Never had a sore throat before though …. It’s hard to swallow so quite painful 😣.  Thats why I did a covid test … x

I take fexofenadine antihistamines (on prescription) and they're great. Much better than anything I've ever tried OTC.

I’ve been given those today supposed to take 2x120 as skin issues aswell but just took 1 for now see how I get on. What side effects did you have and for how long? My itching seems to b less irritating by just 1 dose

Old Lass … look for Allevia, Treathay or Telfast… these are some of the brand names.

Hi Dotty,

I have Fexofenadine prescribed by GP for rhinitis. I didn't realise you can by it OTC. Can I ask if this is in the UK? I thought it was prescription only but this is useful to know.

Yes, it's in UK.

Your GP might be able to prescribe a higher strength.
