Patches and dosage
« on: March 27, 2025, 02:56:46 PM »

Hi
I am 52 year old lady, and had a total (all removed) in November 2023.

Since then I have been on estrogen patches only (I was on progesterone too pre hysterectomy).  I have for a number of years been on 100mg of Estradot and have been doing fine, however, I have had to start taking 100mg Everol (due to Estradot shortages).

I now feel awful, anxiety isn't great, headaches, cant work properly, my head feel foggy  - its like I have taken a step back.

Could this be due to changing brand or maybe I need to now reduce dose as post meno?

Any ideas / own experiences appreciated...thanks.

Your symptoms suggest low estrogen, not high.

Many people don't seem to absorb as well from evorel as from estradot - whether this is due to them not sticking as well or some other factor is unclear.

Your options if you can't get your usual patches are

a) use multiple lower dose estradot patches if you can get them eg 2* 50mcg or 4* 25mcg

b) use a higher dose of evorel eg 150mcg  to make up for lower efficacy

c) use another option eg tablets or gel.

I posted on another thread recently about women suffering unnecessarily due to estradot shortages as they are scared of taking oral estrogen as an effective alternative, without understanding that the increase in thrombotic risk is only a handful of extra cases in ten thousand ie not clinically significant.

Thanks, I did wonder too if possibly not absorbing so may need more.  They irritate my skin too.

I cant get any Estradot.  I have seen they maybe back on 4th April, so will try and order then.  Riddiculous isnt it we have to suffer.

I did have a couple of spare Estraderm so last night I put them on, just an experiment to see if I feel any better than I have been.

Interestingly, am I am sure prob not related but Evorel's base is yam, and so is Utrogesteron...I couldnt cope with Utrogesteron (I then struggled too with other forms of progesterone)...could be a coinicidence but does make me think...

Thanks for your guidance.xx
