HRT stopped working
« on: March 23, 2025, 05:46:28 PM »

I recently started HRT. The doctor prescribed generic estradiol patches, and the pharmacy gave me Evorel 50 for the first 3 months. This helped quite a bit, but I wanted to try a higher dose. My doctor agreed, and I received 3 months' worth of Estraderm 75 patches.

However, since the dose increase, all my symptoms have returned. At first I thought maybe I was reacting to thedose being too high. But these symptoms all sound like low oestrogen to me: hot flushes, joint pain, dry itchy skin, vaginal dryness.

I also take utrogestan 25 days on, 3 days off. I was having a small withdrawal bleed on the Evorel 50, but on the Estraderm 75 I'm just getting the tiniest amount plus a load of strong cramps. Higher oestrogen should mean a slightly heavier bleed, right? Or does your body adapt to the hormones and stop bleeding?

Anyway, I'm tempted to contact the doctor and ask them to prescribe Evorel 75 specifically. I get prescribed 3 months' worth of patches at a time and am only 1 month into my current batch. Do you think they will agree to prescribing a specific brand? And before I've used up my last prescription?

I'm on gel so not the same but I've had similar issues with not knowing if symptoms were due to too much or too little E. If Evorel 50 was suiting you, I'd consider going back to that to see if your symptoms settle. You could then request Evorel 75 after that if needed. You may find Vagirux pessaries or Estriol cream useful to target the vaginal dryness directly x

Thanks Peach8! I did an online form for the doctor and they just texted me saying they'd prescribed Evorel 75 without even talking to me. They are usually quite combative about anything really, but this time it just was all ok.

1.5 weeks back on Evorel and I am much relieved! A way to go still to reach full effect, but definitely getting better.
