Post menopause by about a year( I think!)  and using patch and 100mg utrogestan continually. Have had irregular spotting for about 4 years ,had hysteroscopy 18 months ago  and fibroids  found. Am still spotting on and off and latest ultrasound said endometrial thickness is 5mm, which is just within the normal range. Id rather avoid taking more utrogestan unless essential. My GP is clueless. Should I ask to have ultrasound every 6 months or once a year? The bleeding doesn't bother me , it's just the fact that it could mask something sinister in future. Im still changing patches so hoping that the bleeding stops in a year or 2 when I've stabilized on a  Hrt regime

I would scan yearly however the NHS doesn't usually fund this - the advice would be to increase the progesterone or change to a different progestogen to stop the bleeding and provide better endometrial control.

It is worth asking though because you might get lucky.

Otherwise you could pay for the scans privately.

Am in Ireland and  have private insurance which funds half of it . Once a year is ok.Money isn't the issue so I'd do 6 monthly if safer!

You could maybe start at 6 months for peace of mind and if all is well drop to yearly.

I pay for a yearly scan myself.

I am not familiar with the Irish health system but in the UK if this was going through the NHS, if bleeding was mentioned you would sooner or later come under pressure to change your treatment, even if the lining was thin, as there is a culture of not tolerating any kind of ongoing postmenopausal bleeding or spotting, so if you are having scans anyway it might just be better to say it is for another reason, such as a general health check or ovarian cancer screening, (although these would not typically be done more than once a year).

Yeah I'm afraid I'll be put under pressure to get coil. I might try increasing the utrogestan to 200f for a week to see how I react. Maybe it'll be fine. My progesterone levels on 100mg are about 5 so maybe Im not absorbing as much as other women.
Also afraid they'll make me decrease my oestrogen ,my levels are 250pmol at moment so doesn't make sense that oestrogen is too high. I'll try for 6 months for the next year. My GP is great in that she believes.its my body and my decision etc.
