Thrush not thrush still sore
« on: April 14, 2025, 07:19:56 PM »

I use vagifem have done for a number of years no particular problems over the years until now. I am 66.
UTIs followed by thrush as result of antibiotics…then another yeast infection the doctor had never heard of and don’t know how to treat.
I am still extremely sore, one Dr suggested moisturiser alongside vagifem and another Dr said no to moisturiser as prone to thrush.
Drs at my surgery are young males, only females are locums.
Any suggestions?

A well estrogenised vagina shouldn't really need any additional products - were you moisturising it when you were 25?

However it is very difficult to maintain urogenital health with vaginal estrogen alone at the doses commonly prescribed, so if this is all you have access to I would start by using it daily if you are not already.

If you really do need or want to use an additional moisturizer, choose one that is designed for intimate use, ideally with as few ingredients as possible - none of those substances would come into contact with our genitals naturally.

Also you need to make sure that any fungal infection you may have had has actually been fully cleared, so I would suggest getting a further swab and maybe see if there's a local sexual health clinic that you could go to without a referral if there is nobody with an interest in female health at your GP surgery.

 :welcomemm:

4 me thrush was very high up - I wasn't able to reach in to scratch!  It began after I stopped taking the contraceptive Pill and twice after surgery so I began using LIVE Greek yoghurt: eaten and applied.  Cleansing the digestive tract from top to bottom.

Vaginal atrophy mimics repeated urinary-tract infection symptoms really really well.  How often are you using the 'vagifem'. U can request 'ovestin/estriol' which is in a tube to apply on the outer labia region.  Every night if necessary.

Do let us know how you get on.

Hi.
Dr swapped my vagifem for overstin but that created more irritation, so I have gone back to vagifem 3x a week Dr said they don’t recommend more times.
I am going to the Dr every week for swabs sometimes thrush then not, then a very odd yeast infection that was picked up
Then had to wait another week to find out what might kill this “bug”
Canesten in large doses was suggested… didn’t react well to that either !

Still waiting for results of last week’s swab !

Hi Ichycoo,

Did you get your results?
I’m also waiting for swab results. It’s so hard to tell what is causing the burning.
There is  only one brand of yeast infection cream I can tolerate.  It does not contain propylene glycol as the others do.
The ovestin caused me more irritation than Vagifem also.  Even when I switched to a compounded cream in a less irritating base it still burned like crazy.

It may help you to read through some of member Midnight Shadow's posts as she had trouble with a different strain of yeast.
Here is one thread but if you click on Midnight Shadow's name you can read all posts.
You may find that you have to post 10 times yourself on the forum as a new member before accessing this i can't remember.

Medics still read the leaflet in the box  >:( which needs altering.  It is absolutely OK to use VA treatments every night, the more often the less stinging will occur as the vaginal walls soak up the oestrogen.
