Boric Acid for Glabrata thrush
« on: December 03, 2023, 07:58:59 AM »

Pleased to say I have my Azo Boric Acid Pessaries to treat Glabrata thrush. Had to end up purchasing them.
from abroad as clinic aren’t allowed to prescribe. Would need to move county to get some. Have used 4 to date. Crossing everything that they get rid of this thrush. Last night day 3 was particularly bad with the ache and it has been better recently. Hoping the die off is really ridding the toxins from my vaginal area. Is this possible? Apparently, I was resistant to Clotrimazole as well as fluconazole. What a waste of 6 months treatment. Have any of you had success with Boric Acid Pessaries. Hoping for a better day, after not a good nights sleep. Replies very much appreciated.

So glad you've finally got the treatment you need but it's so worrying that you've had to treat this yourself. What was they going to provide if you hadn't done this?
The die off is caused by the toxins from the candida cells dying and releasing their toxins into your body. You may feel a bit like flu and aching while your body fights the toxin but at least you'll know the candida is finally dead. Not everyone gets this though so dont worry and it only lasts a couple of days. Did you buy the Boric Acid online?
Think I might have it again, it's been a while since last time in October, had a lot of stress this week and it does it everytime. I've got a soft gell clotrimazole so going to give that a go tonight.
At least I know fluconazole and clotrimazole got rid of mine before but the recurrence is still worrying.
Really hope this works for you.

Thanks for responding ladies. I purchased the Azo Boric Acid Pessaries from iherb they came from Indianapolis in US and were recommended by ladies on another site, who have had success with them. The nurse said I could try Clotrimazole for a while longer, but as I was resistant to that treatment, I thought no! I don’t want that again. She had to look up Boric acid on her computer and said they sounded very good. I only buy products from reputable companies. The nurse thought the Doctor could prescribe Boric or Nystatin. I said they can’t, they are not allowed. Anyway, she was very understanding and wished she could help me more. Fingers crossed the Boric works. I will keep you all posted. Thanks again. Hope you can all have a nice day.

Hi Midnight Shadow and sorry to hear about your issues with thrush - as a fellow sufferer of persistent thrush (not glabrata for me, but parapsilosis) I feel for you.

You can buy pessaries containing boric acid in the UK in the form of 'Boots Dual Action Thrush and BV pessaries'. They were suggested to me by a consultant dermatologist and (crossing fingers frantically here!) really seem to have helped me.

I had no idea you could get boric acid pessaries from Boots and was amazed when the dermatologist mentioned them! You can buy them over the counter and (unlike the azole medications) there is no upper age limit. They come as a seven-day course and the instructions say to use them for a second week if needed. I used them for two weeks and then, after a gap of a few days, used for another week because things still didn't feel quite right.

I have a couple of packs put by, as I'm sure the thrush will recur (I'm being treated for Lichen Sclerosus - hence the dermatologist - and using steroid ointment for the LS apparently really increases the chance of thrush. I was prone to chronic thrush anyway, so the steroid was a double whammy for me). For now though, I've been pleasantly surprised by how well the Boots pessaries have worked.

Just wanted to let people know about them in the hope that someone else might find them useful.

Thanks Eviepf for responding. The senior nurse I spoke to at the hospital did actual mention Boots Thrush and BV Pessaries. I did use them for 3 days before my medication arrived from US. I felt I needed something stronger to finally get rid of the Glabrata thrush. So pleased they are helping you. At least I have some in hand should I need them. Do hope you continue to make good progress. Never dreamt of having all these problems with the menopause. Thought it was just hot flushes. Anyway take care.

Interesting:

Is boric acid illegal in the UK?

Borax Banned In The UK & EU

To get started, it is important to know that in the UK and EU you can no longer buy borax. Back in 2010, the EU decided that the 'Borate' group of chemicals – the group that Borax belongs to – may be potentially hazardous to health. Borax was therefore banned from sale in the EU. [27 Oct 2023]

A few NHS sites suggest it can be used 'off licence' especially by STD Clinics.

High CLKD some clinics do prescribe Boric Acid and Nystatin pessaries. Unfortunately, not mine. My sister said you’ll have to move county to get some medication you need. Cheaper to buy from the US.  :) Think the Doctors and nurses get frustrated at not being able to prescribe the medication needed. All to do with cost apparently. Thanks for responding. Haven’t ached too much today, so am crossing fingers Boric is working. Early days yet.

Hi Midnight Shadow

It's good to hear that you're feeling somewhat better. Onwards and upwards, hopefully, and fingers definitely crossed!
