Palpitations
« on: March 19, 2025, 06:49:57 PM »

Hi all,
I posted recently about alcohol making me have a fast heavy heart beat. I have palpitations and am booked in for an ecg.
Tonight I had the fast heavy heart beat but no alcohol. Is this the case for others? The doctor said its most likely menopause but I'm really struggling with it.
Can anyone make me feel a little more relaxed about them please?

Palpitations and rapid heart beat are VERY common, yes,it can be scary at times, even now,for me, I think my heart is about to jump out of my chest and I've had them for years, ecg and heart monitor like Dotty and all ok.  :)

I had these and they went away on the right dose of HRT.

I have had these too.  First of all I noticed I'd wake during the night after a couple of drinks and my heart was beating really hard and fast, didn't like it.  Then I noticed a few quick palpitations during the day.  They would catch my breath and make me cough, also not nice.

Started hrt over 4 months ago and they went away. Started a higher dose this week because palpitations and other symptoms came back.

I didn't get it checked out but now assume it's simply another symptom of not enough estrogen.

For me peri/menopausal palpitations seemed to occur as a result of wildly fluctuating hormones and HRT with a higher dose of HRT making them unbearably worse. So more HRT is not always the answer.

All the usual suspects like dehydration, caffeine, alcohol and stress can trigger them off more readily, so it's a good idea to manage these things more closely at this stage of our lives.

Hope they calm down soon.
