My mirena journey so far.. it's good news
« on: March 11, 2025, 07:27:46 PM »

I thought others might find this useful.

I had mirena coil fitted 3 weeks ago.
I'm 52, peri and use Evorel 50 patches for estrogen.

I have previously tried Evorel sequi for 4 years. It was ok but didn't stop PMT or horrible psychological symptoms.

Then tried Evorel Conti (continuous regime) for about 6 months,  but think it was too soon as I am still peri. So psychological symptoms still intolerable.

Then tried utrogestan with Evorel 50 sequentially and continuously (orally) which was the worst for anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts.
Also tried utro vaginally but this was intolerable due to discomfort.

Last hope for me was Mirena. Had it fitted 21 days ago. Had hysteroscopy so had it fitted at same time under general anaesthetic.

I know it's early days but so far so good. I think the dose ramps up to the maximum at 24 days. Best I've felt in months. Some very slight pinkish bleeding everyday (more like a smear rather than spotting).

I was really worried as you read so many horror stories about the Mirena. I feel a bit like my old self. More energised and able to cope.
I am hoping it will bump me into full menopause as this peri journey has been truly horrible. But even if I can get a few normal weeks every month, that will be tolerable
I will post an update at a later date. Fingers crossed.

I'm glad it's successful. I debated having one for a long time as I didn't get on with any of the progestogens I tried (evorel conti was fine until I developed as allergy to it). I've had my mirena for about 6 weeks now and it's great.

I’m on my third Mirena, having some bleeding at present, but hopefully it will settle down soon.
Mirena is great, I don’t tolerate utrogestan well either, orally sends me spiralling into depression and internally causes digestive issues
