Severe Anxiety with Ustrogestron-
« on: March 10, 2025, 08:13:57 PM »

Hi,
I have been prescribed  Ustrogestron  (orally) for the past 12 days. It has been horrendous.

I suffer from severe Anxiety and Depression and it seems since Ustrogestron my Anxiety is has been has become unbearable  - I can't function. I was prescribed Ustrogestron due to it being bio- identical - only natural Progesterone.

I told my Menopause Nurse that I suffer already with Anxiety and Depression and she wasn't interested.

I went to see my GP last wk and told her I do not want to see the Menopause Nurse again.
My GP suggested administrating Ustrogestron Vaginally.

Although I have read related literature re: Vaginal route I am terrified that it will still cause more severe Anxiety.

I was taking Evorel Conti patches previously for 6 months and they didn't agree with me: It was suggested by Menopause Nurse that it could be to much Estrogen in them.
.
I was also prescribed Lenzepo (possibly wrong spelling?)  Spray for
Estrogen at the same time.

I suffer from severe allergies hence, allergic to many medicines (colours ect). Furthermore since taking Ustrogestron my Excema has been terrible. (Caused by increased Anxiety)

I am sorry to go on but  I'm at my wits end. I feel like the Menopause Nurse and my GP are not listening.

I cannot suffer like this for 6 - 12 wks  - which apparently it takes this to work?.

U go on - it's about venting!  I would stop if you are feeling worse.

Ask your Surgery to refer you to a dedicated menopause Clinic, not to an Observatory and Gynae Clinic at the Hospital. There are waiting lists for both NHS and private menopause clinics so the sooner U ask for the referral the better.

In the meantime, if U don't already, keeping a mood/food/symptom diary may help chart progress.

Evorel conti patches only have 50mcg of estradiol in them so unless you're a fruit fly this is unlikely to be "too much".

The progestin in the combined patches, norethisterone, is known to not be very kind re mood.

Unfortunately some women find micronised progesterone difficult to tolerate too, but the vaginal route is definitely worth a try as it doesn't get converted into psychoactive metabolites as it does when taken orally.

First off how much estrogen are you on? Make sure you are on the lowest safe dose of progesterone to cover that.

For example if you are on a 50mcg patch, you would take 100mg progesterone every night.

If vaginal micronised progesterone is also not tolerated there are other oral progestins or the mirena IUS.

Anecdotally having testosterone replacement also makes it easier to tolerate the progestogen in some cases as it supports mood and positive neurotransmitters like dopamine.

Also don't forget tibolone as an option, this can be a great solution for those who can't tolerate standard progestogens.

I would try to see a menopause specialist if I were you - I hate that I'm saying this but sometimes self funding and appointment is the best way to access the care you need in an acceptable time frame when your GP practice is out of their depth.

Just a thought Booblet - but are you histamine intolerant? The Newson Clinic told me that some women become more anxious on oestrogen if they have issues with histamine. It's explained in their factsheet.

Also have you ever been checked for low blood pressure? My autonomic specialist said many women are diagnosed with anxiety disorder but really have very high noradrenaline levels with autonomic dysfunction.

Hi,
I hope this reaches the lovely members who replied to my post.
I usually reply individually, but for some reason can't do that from this website?

I've been quite poorly, hence late reply.
Your replies have been so helpful and knowledgable.
Thankyou again  x
