For what it's worth, what you are describing doesn't sound like typical acid reflux.
The sudden onset and unilateral location point away from this.
However without giving a reasonable first line treatment a try, you will be no further forward.
A therapeutic trial of a treatment is not about masking symptoms, it can help elucidate what is going on.
If acid reflux treatment gets rid of it, you have your answer. If it makes no difference, you can let your GP know and they will pursue other possibilities.
