Estradot shortage
« on: March 03, 2025, 04:37:53 PM »

Hi All,
I have just been told that there is a shortage of Estradot patches .....again!! It seems its not long since the last time they were not available.  They have been the only HRT that has worked for me - have tried Evorel, Lenzetto, Oestrogel etc.  I just wondered if anyone knew when they are likely to be available again please?  I take one and half patches of 37.5 patch every other day.  Thanks so much in advance for any info x

I know that there are a lot of women petrified of taking oral estrogen so just wanted to share some figures to put this into perspective.

From BMJ article by Vinogradova 2019;

The number of women who would need to take oral HRT for a single extra blood clot to occur is 1076.

Oral HRT results in an extra 9 thrombotic events per 10,000 women who take it for a year.

In clinical terms the absolute increase in risk for an individual is minuscule, much less than 1%

I think if there was more understanding of this by both clinicians and patients, a lot of suffering and inconvenience could be avoided.

Some people will obviously need and want to use transdermal, but for many others facing supply shortages, oral estradiol is an easy and viable alternative.

I’ve just listened to Diane Danzebrink’s post on this again on Instagram. It’s to do with the supplier transferring its manufacturing plant from America to Europe. Some supplies will be available throughout 2025 but the situation is not expected to rectify until the end of 2026. She has however said she’s hoping for a better update this week.

Jenny, there are Estrodot 25s in stock. If you are on 1.5x 37.5, that is a total of 56.25.

So you might want to ask for 2x 25s instead. That will get you to 50mcg, which is near enough and might be okay for you.

I am currently on ELEVEN!!!!!x 25s to get to 275. It is insane. It has taken me ages to get to this dose and settled and I really don't want to change. I am ALSO on 6 pumps of Oestrogel and I can't absorb more than that (have tried, but my serum levels don't go up). On Sandrena, I was terrible and had all symptoms return. I haven't tried another patch brand yet but really don't want to either, but that will need to be the next thing.

You can check here: https://www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/pharmacies-gp-practices-and-appliance-contractors/serious-shortage-protocols-ssps

Currently it says 14th March we should have 100s and 75s back, but I wonder if they are just going to keep extending it. We'll see.

Joziel thanks so much for your post.  I have managed to get some more 37.5's and like you I really don't want to change HRT types as had a really difficult time getting it right in the first place having tried gel, spray and other patches.  Fingers crossed they become available again before too long. I hope you can continue to get yours ok - it really is a nightmare sometimes these shortages
