Cervical smear test
« on: February 21, 2025, 09:08:49 AM »

Hello everyone  , I am Viki , pleased to meet you . I have a question . When the smear test goes from every 3 years to every 5 years , for over 50's . Is this affected by taking hrt ? I am making an assumption  that it alters at 50 due to menopause,  but this could be wrong !!!!!  : :) :) :)

Welcome.  Have no idea, sorry.  After 70 we have to ask for the test.  Other than that, not a lot of help am I  ::)

I no longer have tests.

I'm 68 now and a few years ago, at my last test, they also tested for the virus (forgot the name).  As that test was clear I was told further smears were no longer needed.

Hey

I might be wrong. But I think smears have changed recently and now, instead of looking for cell changes, they look for HPV virus. So, if u don't have it - they put u on 5 years.

Teebs are now being immunised for HPV.

But this is I 'think'. Cause I'm sure I'm on 5 years now and I'm not 50 yet.

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/cervical-screening/when-youll-be-invited/

Doesn't mention testing for the virus here, but that's certainly what happened to me.
