Is testosterone at 3.2 too high
« on: February 20, 2025, 06:52:26 AM »

I’ve had lots of blood tests with an endocrinologist and one of the markers that came back was a testosterone level of 3.2.
My oestrogen level is 425 which is just about spot-on for me. I use 1.25 patches.

The doctor has said I have to reduce the Androfemme to 2 times a week instead of every other day to get the level down.  I also have a marina coil which works well.

My question is what is the ideal result for testosterone?  I don’t have any symptoms of high testosterone, but since I’ve reduced the amount I’m using, I started having a little bit of spotting. This is New for me. I’m wondering if my own hormones are kicking in.

My shbg is 49 and fsh is 10.9

I’m 51 and been peri for about 8 years.

Do you know your free androgen index?

Your testosterone is higher than the NHS upper limit - their range is usually very conservative, upper limit of 1.67 or 1.8 nmol/L.

Private providers are generally happy with up to around 2.7 or a FAI of 5.

My free T is 2.4 with a FAI of just under 5. I take DHEA.

Did you test after applying your testosterone gel that day? This can artificially elevate the result due to a transient spike that doesn't reflect your level over 24hr.

In the first instance if someone feels well and has no clinical symptoms of overtreatment it is reasonable to repeat the test rather than a knee jerk response to drop the dose - blood levels can vary quite widely even in the same individual on the same day.

Thanks. FAI wasn’t tested I don’t think. I was sent all the results but it could be possible that hadn’t come back to the dr by then.

Not sure if I’d used testosterone on the day of testing. It was last dec.

I was retested on Monday so it will be interesting to see what happens.
