Such a positive outcome today from my first review with the GP at my new surgery, previously it was with the nurse. He mentioned the fact I am using treatment every day, did a gynaecologist recommend this, I replied yes my previous GP was a gynaecologist and she used it daily herself. I did mention I have tried to reduce but the symptoms quickly come back and its definite now I need daily treatment.
I told him I don’t follow the NICE guidelines but the recommendations of the BSSM. He laughed and said I know exactly what you mean and was happy for me to continue with daily treatment and he actually put my meds on a three monthly basis going forwards.
This is so positive coming from a very young male GP who understood everything I was saying regarding topical oestrogen and I hope this means that things will get better for women who have to put up a fight when its obvious extra treatment is needed.
Its important to be armed with all the information if you do come across resistance to dosages of topical HRT, researching the subject is paramount and you will soon know yourself if you need more than the out of date instructions in the Vagifem leaflet of two per week, a leaflet that is so alarmist and scare mongering and relates more to systemic oestrogen and not topical, two completely different medications.
