Anxiety at 69
« on: February 12, 2025, 03:25:20 PM »

I am 69 and suffering debilitating anxiety for the past few weeks. I am taking Venlafaxine 225 mgs and have been for a good while now. The reason being I suffered a total breakdown and couldn’t eat, go out function as a normal person. That would have been around the age of 55/56. I had a total hysterectomy at the age of 47 and apart from putting me on oestrogen only HRT was sent on my way. Now I’m wondering if all of my anxiety stems from all of this. The Venlafaxine at the moment is not working at all and I feel like I’m back to square one. I just wondered if anyone else has had a similar experience. At the moment I feel dreadful and am struggling to cope.

 :bighug: I had my first panic attack at the age of 3 and have managed it with various medications particularly since the 1980s.

Your anxiety may well be hormonally linked.  Did U keep your ovaries at the time of surgery?  Even if they were removed there may be enough 'stump' left behind to cause fluctuations.

R U able to up the amount of Venlafaxine ?  Do have a word with a Pharmacist or your GP about taking a more instant anti-anxiety medication with the Venlafaxine.

Is there a dedicated menopause Nurse/GP at your surgery?  There are also NHS and private menopause clinics - don't bother with a gynaecologist as they often don't know much more than some GPs seem to do  ::)

:welcomemm:  some find that keeping a mood/food/symptom diary of use to chart progress.  Browse round.  Make notes ;-).
