Tibolone to be no longer prescribed?
« on: February 05, 2025, 07:55:30 AM »

Just seen a post on Instagram by Louise Newson that this is one of the medications doctors are being told to no longer prescribe in 2025. I know some of us take this - might be worth investigating. It's listed in a document about medicines not to use.

I saw this and read the link which Louise Newson posted today.  It has very little information unless one pays a €165 fee for access to the full report by Prescrire International.  This same info was posted by Prescrire international in a previous newsletter from 2021 with the same recommendation and what I can see without paying the fee, this has been recommended by them for many years.

I take Tibolone as I cant tolerate progesterone, after trying many different forms.

Tibolone is well tolerated and very effective, there aren't many studies because it's banned in the USA. It's banned as it can help young healthy athletes cheat in their games, which is more important than the millions of women in America who have progesterone intolerance and menopause together every year. :o
I hope the UK doesn't jump on that misogynistic bandwagon because after telling the GP I was intolerant to progesterone, I was told that doesn't happen in menopause, then had to trial several suicide inducing progestins before I was allowed tibolone, it's disgraceful, but it's only women suffering, so who knows what they'll do.
I need my tibolone to feel good, also I know it's helping my bones, possibly every organ is benefitting and until they produce an alternative I hope they don't disregard us as a bunch of older women, safe to ignore.
