Tegaderm concerns
« on: February 07, 2025, 07:48:28 AM »

Good Morning all. I have been using Tegaderm waterproof coverings on my Evorel 50 patch for the last month. I have had some bad symptoms in the last week and have been concerned that the Tegaderm might be preventing the patch from working correctly. Has anybody had any experience of this or any thoughts? The dressing does work well in that it does keep the patch dry and secure but does it reduce effectiveness? There is nothing in the Evorel information sheet that says not to do this. Many thanks.

I don't know about tegaderm but when I was using the patches for IVF where the stakes are so much higher, my consultant advised the use of softpore or hypafix which can be bought from Amazon.

These kept it on nicely and the IVF worked, so clearly I was getting what I needed.

In fact this made it quite difficult to remove as they stick really well, you can have a bath or shower with no worries.

Whilst this is doable short term, I have chosen the convenience and reliability of oral estrogen for long term use as I found dealing with the patches too high maintenance.

I just wanted to add this because many people struggle with transdermal because they are needlessly afraid of taking a pill, when the real world difference in risk for healthy women is not clinically significant (less than one extra blood clot per thousand!)

I use tattoo film over the top. I noticed I seemed to absorb it better. They don't budge at all now, that's probably why.
