Caz,although my GA wasn't for the same procedure as yours, it was a hysteroscopy, it was a doddle so try not to worry. I was pretty uneasy because I hadn't had a GA before. The waiting around does make it worse but my husband was allowed to wait and a couple of other ladies had someone with them because they were very anxious so if you can, insist you need someone there if you need to.
The staff in the theatre were really kind and I made sure the anaesthetist knew I hadn't had GA before. So he chatted away while a canula was inserted and then told me he was putting the anaesthetic in, put an oxygen mask on me, told me to count backwards from 10 and then a nurse was telling me to wake up! She gave me a drink and 2 paracetamol because I had mild cramps and that was it. Tbh it was almost pleasant because I'm usually doing so much for others it was quite nice to be taken care of.
They didn't send me home with any meds but my pain was gone by then
I hope that helps a little. I still try and figure out how I was there one minute and then what seemed like the next second coming round. I do hope everything goes well for you. Once you're out the other side, you'll wonder what you were worried about. But do let them know if you're nervous, they really are so kind.
